Job Summary

The Vice President of Transmission Projects - West will be responsible for directing and providing leadership and guidance to the AEP Generation, Distribution and Building Services Major Projects Organizations. Responsibilities include direct accountability for the successful completion of a portfolio of projects across the full range of complexity with total budgets up to $5 billion. Projects will range from $5 Million to over $1 Billion investments spanning multiple years.

The Vice President of Transmission Projects - West will provide direction to organization to ensure all projects are initiated, planned, executed, monitored & controlled, and closed in a safe, efficient, economical, risk-balanced approach to achieve short- and long-range goals and to obtain maximum customer satisfaction. They will also provide leadership, build relationships, and effectively communicate with all stakeholders including internal customers (plant management teams), external customers, suppliers, contractors, vendors, and industry peers.

The Vice President of Transmission Projects - West is responsible for the direction of teams to manage multifaceted, performance-based contracts and contractors, including the timely resolution of all project issues, both technical and commercial. Maintain an adaptable management philosophy which emphasizes continuous improvement, improved management processes, resource effectiveness, productivity, communications, and financial accountability.

Job Description

What You'll Do:

• Provide leadership, develop, and oversee policies, practices, procedures, and programs designed to achieve long-range and short-term Company objectives in a cost-effective manner for the areas of responsibility outlined above.
• Direct an effective, innovative, and aggressive project management organization through proper scoping, organization, staffing, planning, scheduling, budgeting, and performance metric measurement reporting.
• Develop partnerships with all stakeholders, including Operations, Engineering Services, Environmental Services, Energy Services, A/E firms and OEMs to establish the long-range strategic project planning, scheduling, permitting, and licensing, engineering, design, procurement, and construction program to achieve the goals and objectives established for each assigned project.
• Direct, monitor, and continually reinforce effective, innovative, and aggressive safety programs, including methods, procedures, and performance measurements to assure a 'Zero Harm' work environment through effective and disciplined adherence to all safety policies and procedures.
• Direct, monitor, and provide leadership to ensure schedules, cost estimates, cash flows and overall capital expenditures for assigned environmental projects are developed and in accordance with the SCPP. Monitor and control overall project and site-related activities and expenditures to insure conformance with approved schedules, cash flows and budgets.
• Provide leadership and guidance to support Generation, Distribution, and Building Services vision, strategy and execution plan for Capital Excellence and Continuous Improvement.
• Provide for the development and effective utilization of subordinate Project Directors and Project Managers through job assignments, training programs, rotation, and personal development plans to maximize both their personal potential and contribution to the Company. Be a mentor to others.
• Provide leadership, guidance and support for the organization's assigned project long range budget and forecast to assure effective development of estimate and cash flow basis, change management of projections, stakeholder communication and acceptance of the budget and forecasts.

What We're Looking For:

Education

• Bachelor’s degree in construction management, Engineering, Business related field of study with fifteen (15) years of qualified experience (see below).

Experience

• Three (3) years of experience as a PROJECT DIRECTOR is preferred, OR demonstrated competencies, knowledge, and skillset through achieved results in a shorter timeline.
• Minimum of fifteen (15) years of qualified experience, with at least eight (8) years supervising others, including work in two or more of the following areas: major construction projects, project management, commissioning, project controls, fossil plant operations, and labor negotiations.
• Experience must exhibit progressive levels of responsibility and accomplishment, highly proficient level of business acumen, and demonstrated effective leadership skills.
• Human resource administration with supervisory experience, including formally developing others, of at least eight (8) years is required.

Licenses/Certifications

• Project Management Professional (PMP) is preferred

$221,489.00 - $287,934.50
