Job Description

The Japan Research Institute (JRI) Limited is a subsidiary of Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (SMBC) Group. JRI provides comprehensive, highly value-added information services through the coordinated application of its 3 functions. i.e. information systems, consulting and think-tank. As a system integrator, JRI offers services in IT strategy planning, implementation and outsourcing to a broad range of industries and activities. JRI Singapore currently supports the overall IT functions of Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (SMBC) in Asia Pacific Region.

Responsibilities
Technical Solutioning & Design Ownership

  • Lead technical solutioning from requirements to delivery.
  • Translate requirements into scalable, maintainable technical designs.
  • Drive design decisions and review offshore/vendor solutions.

Quality Governance & Engineering Excellence

  • Take accountability for technical quality across all development work.
  • Enforce and improve technical standards, coding practices, and solution quality.
  • Conduct design and code reviews and proactively manage technical risks.

Offshore & Vendor Technical Leadership

  • Provide technical guidance and oversight to offshore and vendor teams.
  • Review deliverables and ensure alignment with approved designs and standards.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to manage dependencies, risks, and timelines.

Delivery Support & Testing

  • Support teams in unit, integration, and UAT testing.
  • Review release procedures, deployment readiness, and rollback strategies.
  • Support production implementation and post-go-live stabilization.

Problem Management & Continuous Improvement

  • Lead root cause analysis and implement preventive measures.
  • Drive improvements in design, practices, and delivery processes.
  • Contribute to platform modernization and workflow automation initiatives.

Mentorship & Knowledge Leadership

  • Mentor junior engineers and promote best practices in design, development, and testing.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, or related field.
  • 5 - 8 years’ experience in Java (J2EE, Spring) and modern front-end frameworks (Angular, AngularJS, React, ReactJS).
  • Strong experience in solution design, quality governance, and offshore/vendor oversight.
  • Experience with workflow systems; banking/financial services preferred.
  • Experience in deploying and maintaining cloud-native Java applications on cloud platforms (e.g., Azure, AWS, GCP).
  • Hands-on exposure to container platforms such as Kubernetes and OpenShift.
  • Familiarity with SDLC methodologies (Waterfall and Agile).
  • Strong understanding of non-functional requirements: performance, security, scalability, and maintainability.
  • Strong ownership and accountability for technical outcomes.
  • Ability to drive design decisions, challenge solutions constructively, and provide technical governance.
  • Proactive in identifying risks, resolving issues, and implementing preventive measures.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Experience leading or mentoring software developers.
  • Hands-on experience with workflow/BPM platforms (e.g., Newgen BPM).
