We are the people who give possibilities purpose

BD is one of the largest global medical technology companies in the world. Advancing the world of health™ is our Purpose, and it’s no small feat. It takes the imagination and passion of all of us—from design and engineering to the manufacturing and marketing of our billions of MedTech products per year—to look at the impossible and find transformative solutions that turn dreams into possibilities.

The Vice President Quality Management, Operations (VPQ) is a senior global quality leadership role reporting to the Global Head of Quality, with responsibility for developing and implementing strategic quality plans across multiple business units and regions, including EMI, APM, EMEA BDI & SM, and the Swiss-based International Infusion Platform (IIP).

The role partners closely with business and compliance leaders to ensure quality strategies align with regulatory requirements, compliance priorities, and BD’s quality objectives. A key aspect of the position is driving CI through L6S methodologies to improve product quality, operational performance, and global manufacturing excellence.

The VPQ provides oversight of the quality function across the IIP platform and numerous manufacturing and service sites located in North America, Europe, the Caribbean, and Mexico, being accountable for ensuring that interpersonal structures, processes, resources, suppliers, and quality systems are effective, follows global regulatory standards, and aligned with BD corporate quality policies.

The VPQ directly leads quality teams across 13 sites and holds ultimate responsibility for plant quality leadership within key U.S. EMI facilities, ensuring that quality teams operate independently enough to support manufacturing operations while remaining subject to appropriate governance and oversight.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure quality strategies remain aligned with evolving business needs, customer expectations, and regulatory requirements, with robust processes for reviewing, approving, and implementing changes.

  • Assess emerging product and field quality issues for IIP, provide executive-level recommendations, and drive corrective and preventive actions in collaboration with BD Switzerland and global partners.

  • Build and continuously improve the Quality Management function by developing talent, strengthening professional capabilities, and promoting certifications in ASQ, Six Sigma, and other quality leadership fields.

  • Embed a strong process management culture within Quality Management, ensuring alignment with BD enterprise systems, supply chain processes, supplier quality, documentation systems, SAP, and Lean manufacturing initiatives.

  • Partner with Integrated Supply Chain process owners to support business strategies while representing Quality Management priorities and customer needs across the relevant business units.

  • Participate in executive Management Reviews to assess the efficiency of quality systems, ensure regulatory compliance, and drive implementation of detailed improvements.

  • Ensure all quality personnel at manufacturing sites receive appropriate training and are fully qualified to perform their responsibilities, including interactions with regulatory and certification bodies such as FDA, CE, ISO, and notified bodies.

  • Harmonize quality initiatives across worldwide Quality organizations, driving a consistent approach and standardization across EMEA BDI & SM, APM, EMI, and IIP businesses.

  • Lead and support the remediation of significant quality, manufacturing, and distribution issues, ensuring sustainable improvements in product quality, compliance, and operational performance.

Key areas of responsibility include:

Leadership & Governance

  • Serve as a key member of the Quality Leadership Team, EMI Platform Leadership Team, and other executive quality forums.

  • Partner with senior leaders to shape quality strategy and drive business performance across global operations.

  • Supervise quality performance metrics and proactively find opportunities for improvement.

Customer & Product Quality

  • Supervise the investigation and resolution of product complaints across global markets.

  • Ensure product quality issues are resolved effectively, with a focus on long-term prevention and continuous improvement.

  • Safeguard the integrity and reliability of products throughout their lifecycle.

Team Leadership & Supplier Quality

  • Lead, develop, and inspire high-performing Quality Management teams across multiple locations.

  • Develop a culture of quality, accountability, and continuous learning.

  • Oversee supplier and vendor quality programs, including audits, compliance monitoring, and remediation activities.

  • Drive teamwork and knowledge sharing across quality and regulatory teams to promote standard processes globally.

Strategic Impact

  • Promote the sharing of quality and regulatory intelligence across regions and business units.

  • Influence enterprise-wide quality performance through strong leadership, governance, and partner engagement.
