Job Description


The Vice President, Project Management – Nuclear Development will play a central leadership role in guiding NYPA’s growing portfolio of next‑generation nuclear initiatives. Reporting to the Senior Vice President, Nuclear Development, this executive oversees the planning and coordination required to advance complex, large‑scale nuclear projects from concept through execution.
This role brings structure, discipline, and strategic clarity to a fast‑moving, high‑visibility program. The VP leads integrated project management across internal teams and major external partners, ensuring alignment on schedules, priorities, and pathways to delivery. They drive governance and execution standards that support consistent progress across multiple workstreams, while enabling effective decision‑making for senior leadership.
The ideal candidate combines seasoned project leadership with the ability to navigate technical, regulatory, and organizational complexity. This individual will help position NYPA to deliver safe, reliable, zero‑carbon nuclear generation that strengthens New York’s energy future.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the central point of integration for internal teams / leadership and major external partners on schedule and delivery matters.
  • Develop and implement the strategic vision for the department, aligning project management practices with organizational goals and objectives.
  • Provide high-level project leadership and support to the Business Unit, strengthening management team relationships and enhancing overall performance.
  • Synthesize and prioritize key messages from a stream of executive ideas and conversations, ensuring clarity and alignment.
  • Recommend innovative approaches, policies, and procedures to drive continual improvements in business objectives and productivity.
  • Execute strategic project initiatives, providing exceptional internal customer support and driving functional excellence and process improvement.
  • Own and deliver the end-to-end project workplans, milestones, and critical paths across all workstreams.
  • Establish, lead, and actively drive PMO governance, including standards, cadence, reporting, and escalation mechanisms, to ensure consistent execution and accountability across nuclear initiatives.
  • Organize and prioritize critical issues, facilitating efficient decision-making for the leadership team.
  • Drive cross-functional alignment by managing complex interdependencies and ensuring timely resolution of risks and action items.
  • Facilitate strategic meetings with external stakeholders, including customers, to develop and strengthen strategic partnerships.
  • Lead dedicated team of project management staff to support the quality and timely delivery projects.

  • Strategy driven with a keen sense of ownership and commitment to the work, and a passion to deliver results.

Education, Experience and Certifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required, MBA or advanced degree strongly preferred.
  • Minimum 8 years relevant work experience.
  • Minimum 3 or more years of experience managing employees / leading a team
  • Project management experience in the utilities or energy industry preferred.

Physical Requirements

  • Up to 15% travel, primarily within NY State.
  • Attend a variety of meetings, conferences, seminars during and outside of normal business hours.
  • Overnight travel to the various NYPA locations within New York State.

The New York Power Authority is committed to providing fair, competitive, and market-informed compensation. The estimated salary range for this position is: $199,750 - $260,000 The salary offered will be determined based on the successful candidates’ relevant experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities.
