Small Business Lending, LLC. is looking to add a VP, Portfolio Management Lead to its team.
The Vice President, Portfolio Management Lead is responsible for overseeing the management and performance of the bank's commercial loan portfolio while leading a team of credit and portfolio professionals. This role ensures high-quality portfolio administration, risk management, and client relationship support. The Vice President, Portfolio Management Lead works closely with Borrowers, Servicing Officers, Portfolio Managers, Workout Officers, Director of Underwriting, and Executive Leadership to maintain credit quality, optimize portfolio performance, and support the bank's strategic growth objectives.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES (other duties may be assigned as needed):
Leadership & Team Management:
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of Portfolio Managers
- Assist in building out Portfolio Management reports, systems and processes.
- Assign workloads, review analysis, and provide coaching to ensure high-quality credit and portfolio management work.
- Foster a collaborative, performance-driven culture focused on accuracy, accountability, and customer service.
- Conduct regular team meetings to align goals, share best practices, and ensure compliance with policy and regulatory standards.
- Manage loan review process and serve as the liaison with the third party loan review firm.
Portfolio Oversight & Risk Management:
- Manage a diverse portfolio of commercial loans, ensuring ongoing monitoring for credit quality, covenant compliance, and performance trends.
- Ensure that annual loan reviews are completed accurately and on time, in accordance with bank policy.
- Review and approve (within delegated authority) credit analysis, annual reviews, and risk ratings.
- Identify potential problem loans early and work with Workout Officers, Director of Underwriting, and Chief Credit Officer to assist with Action Plans
- Ensure adherence to the bank's credit policies, regulatory requirements, and internal controls.
Credit & Financial Analysis:
- Oversee preparation of annual reviews and risk rating analysis for new and for existing borrowers.
- Prepare annual reviews, renewals, and risk rating analysis for a small portfolio of loans or as a backup.
- Review annual and interim financial statements to support timely credit review cycles.
- Participate in credit approval discussions, providing insight on portfolio impact and risk considerations.
- Ensure timely completion of renewals, modifications, covenant tracking, and annual review documentation.
Strategic & Relationship Support:
- Participate in client meetings, as appropriate, to support ongoing relationship management.
- Provide management reporting and portfolio analytics to senior leadership regarding concentrations, trends, and emerging risks.
Process Improvement & Compliance:
- Continuously evaluate workflows to improve efficiency, consistency, and risk management.
- Support implementation of new systems, reporting tools, or process enhancements.
- Ensure team compliance with documentation standards, annual review timelines, loan policy requirements, and audit findings.
Other Duties:
- Participate in mandatory Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) activities and initiatives, including community outreach, volunteer events, financial education programs, and related efforts, as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
- Minimum 7+ years of experience in commercial credit and loan portfolio management within a financial institution.
- 2+ years of leadership or supervisory experience required.
- Strong understanding of commercial loan structures, financial statement analysis, and regulatory compliance
- Proven leadership, team-building, and mentoring abilities.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication abilities, including report preparation and presentation.
- High attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Proficiency with loan management systems and Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Working knowledge of credit risk rating systems and regulatory guidelines (OCC, FDIC, etc.).
EDUCATION & CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related field required; MBA or advanced degree preferred.
- Credit Risk Certification (CRC), RMA designation, or equivalent, preferred
- Formal commercial credit training program completion, preferred
- SBA underwriting experience
Salary Range: $130,000 to $170,000 per year
