Sobeys is full of exciting opportunities, and we are always looking for exceptional leaders to join our team. We currently have a full-time opportunity for a Vice President, IT Operations. This role will be based in Stellarton, NS.

Reporting to the Senior Vice President, Technology Operations & CISO, the Vice President, IT Operations is accountable for defining and executing the enterprise IT operations strategy to ensure resilient, scalable, and high-performing technology platforms that enable business operations and growth. They will work in close partnership with the business to develop the right vision, objectives and strategy for the technology infrastructure organization.

IT Operations Strategy & Leadership

• Define and execute the enterprise IT operations strategy aligned with business objectives. Deliver innovative, valuable and reliable end-to-end technology operations aligned with Sobeys’ needs, strategy and priorities

• Establish and execute multi-year roadmaps across infrastructure, cloud, integration, and operations

• Establish and evolve an enterprise infrastructure technology strategy, policy and architecture that results in a simple, efficient technology blueprint for systems delivery; this strategy should incorporate the latest thinking on the cloud, DevOps and converged infrastructure to maximize business value.

• Provide company-wide direction in areas of policy and planning for technology and related functions; establish and evolve Infrastructure planning disciplines, methodologies and standards to produce aligned, sustainable, secure system solutions that meet current and future business and IT needs

• Collaborate with executives within technology and across other functions to articulate the technology vision, drive adoption, and identify additional opportunities for delivering value; clearly communicate complex technology concepts to non-IT audiences and levels.

Infrastructure, Cloud, Integration, & SAP

• Manage enterprise IT infrastructure, including cloud, data centers, servers, and integration platforms. Drive modernization of core IT platforms and infrastructure

• Lead Cloud Centre of Excellence (CoE) and oversee cloud strategy, deployments, and migrations. Manage cloud financial operations (FinOps), including compute and AI-related cost optimization

• Manage & evolve our integration strategy, architecture, and API interfaces. Drive continuous improvement of integration layer resiliency and performance to meet business needs

• Drive reliability and performance improvements across integration platforms

• Lead SAP S4 environment operations to support business-critical functions

Store Technology & End-User Services

• Build a Retail Culture – put Sobeys’ stores first by understanding the store reality and perspective to promptly respond to their needs. Acts like an owner by developing store-ready solutions for quality execution. Works at retail speed

• Execute an effective store systems program to ensure our retail stores are enabled with modern & reliable technical systems and timely & exceptional support to meet their mandate and serve our customers

• Provide exceptional customer service to end users through quick and effective incident resolution, service fulfilment (hardware, software, account, etc.) and problem management. Continue to refine customer experience processes

• Seek and drive opportunities to significantly enhance end-user experience through best use of technology/automation

Service Management, Business Continuity, & Operational Excellence

• Ensure continuous availability, resiliency, and performance of IT systems and services. Monitor and proactively address incidents, minimizing downtime and business disruptions. Act with a high degree of urgency to reinstate service interruptions.

• Actively manage and communicate service interruption status during disruptions, complete and action root cause analysis post-incident

• Create and execute proactive monitoring to ensure the ability to quickly diagnose problems and relentlessly pursue a reduction in mean time to recovery (MTR).

• Ensure robust disaster recovery and business continuity plans are in place and regularly tested

• Drive a culture of reliability-by-design and resiliency-by-design

Financial & Operational Management

• Ensure delivery of projects on scope, schedule, budget, and quality

• Manage IT operations budgets and financial performance

• Drive cost optimization through solution rationalization and partner management

Talent & Leadership

• Lead and develop a highly engaged, high-performing IT operations organization

• Drive talent management, including recruitment, retention, and upskilling

• Foster a culture of accountability and high performance

What you have to offer:

• 10+ years of senior leadership in technology delivery and IT operations, including director or VP-level experience leading large teams

• Proven expertise in infrastructure, data center, and cloud environments (Azure required, GCP preferred); experience with integration architectures and ERP systems, preferably SAP S4 HANA

• Experience working with outsourced service providers and vendor management

• Deep understanding of AI technologies and their application in technology delivery and IT operations

• Ability to navigate a fast-evolving technology landscape and adapt enterprise strategies and roadmaps accordingly

• Retail, e-commerce, financial services, or telco experience preferred; high-transaction, consumer-facing environments are an asset

• Proven multi-million-dollar budget management experience

• Thought leader with ability to build a service-focused, agile infrastructure organization through simplification, standardization, and automation

• Strong executive communication and stakeholder management skills; able to present to technical and board-level audiences

• Strong business acumen, strategic mindset, and data-driven approach to metrics and reporting

• Bachelor’s degree in a technical field preferred; MBA or MS a plus
