At Welltower, we’re transforming how the world thinks about senior living and wellness-focused real estate. As a global leader in residential wellness and healthcare infrastructure, we create vibrant, purpose-driven communities where housing, healthcare, and hospitality converge. Our culture is fast-paced, collaborative, and endlessly ambitious—guided by our mantra: The only easy day was yesterday.

We’re looking for bold, independent thinkers who thrive on challenge, embrace complexity, and are driven to deliver long-term value. Every team member is empowered to think like an owner, innovate fearlessly, and lead from where they stand. If you're passionate about outcomes and inspired by the opportunity to shape the future of healthcare infrastructure, we want you on our best-in-class team.

Welltower is seeking a strategic, financially sophisticated executive to lead the company's enterprise risk management and insurance function. The Vice President, Risk Management and Insurance will oversee enterprise risk and risk financing strategy, including global insurance and captive programs, and provide leadership in the identification, assessment, mitigation, and transfer of risk. This leader will partner Legal, Finance, Investments, Asset Management, Operations, Development, and other business functions to protect company assets, support informed business decisions, and optimize total cost of risk. The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in complex insurance and risk financing structures, captive insurance, claims oversight, and executive-level stakeholder management. This position can be based in Toledo, OH, Dallas, TX, or New York, NY.

  • Serve as the executive advisor to senior leadership on enterprise risk, insurance strategy, emerging exposures, and risk financing decisions.
  • Lead and develop the Risk Management & Insurance team while maintaining effective governance, policies, reporting, and executive communications.

Insurance Program Strategy, Placement, and Claims Oversight

  • Oversee the design, placement, negotiation, renewal, and administration of all insurance programs, including property, general and professional liability, directors and officers, cyber, pollution, automobile, workers' compensation, and other executive and specialty risk lines, establishing appropriate coverage, limits, retentions, and program structures.
  • Lead broker and carrier selection, renewal marketing, and complex negotiations to achieve competitive terms, appropriate coverage, financial efficiency, and alignment with business requirements.

  • Manage strategic relationships with operators, business partners, brokers, carriers, reinsurers, captive managers, actuarial advisors, regulators, auditors, and other third parties regarding insurance requirements, coverage, claims, loss control, and company-sponsored risk programs.
  • Oversee insurance diligence and risk allocation for acquisitions, dispositions, developments, financings, joint ventures, and other strategic transactions.

Captive, Risk Financing, and Financial Leadership

  • Lead the strategy, structure, governance, and ongoing management of the company's captive insurance program(s), ensuring alignment with enterprise risk, financial objectives, and long-term program sustainability.
  • Evaluate and implement opportunities to optimize captive utilization, risk retention, reinsurance, coverage, and alternative risk financing strategies to improve capital efficiency and total cost of risk.
  • Oversee captive financial performance and regulatory compliance, including capitalization, reserving, premium allocation, liquidity, and dividend strategy.
