Job Description

We are seeking an experienced risk leader to drive the operational risk and business resilience agenda across our Financial Planning, Investments and Insurance businesses.

This is a high-impact role that goes beyond traditional risk management. You will partner closely with product owners, operations teams, technology teams, and regional platform partners to proactively identify risks, strengthen controls, and provide strategic risk insights that support sustainable business growth.

You will play a key role in ensuring that our financial planning, investment, and insurance businesses remain resilient, customer-centric, and operationally robust while navigating ongoing digital transformation and evolving regulatory expectations.

What You'll Do

Lead Operational Risk Management Initiatives

  • Lead the development and enhancement of the operational risk management framework across Financial Planning, Investments, and Insurance.
  • Provide strategic risk insights to support business growth, new propositions, platform capabilities, and transformation initiatives.
  • Identify emerging risks and trends impacting advisers, customers, products, distribution channels, and business operations.
  • Drive a culture of strong risk ownership, accountability, and proactive risk management across the business.

Provide Risk Leadership & Business Partnership

  • Act as a trusted advisor to stakeholders on operational risk, controls, customer-impact risks, and operational resilience.
  • Challenge business decisions constructively and provide practical recommendations that balance risk management with commercial objectives.
  • Support governance forums by presenting risk insights, themes, and recommendations.

Strengthen Operational Resilience

  • Lead reviews of critical business processes supporting financial planning, investment, and insurance activities.
  • Identify key operational vulnerabilities, concentration risks, manual dependencies, and control gaps.
  • Drive initiatives that improve business resilience, scalability, and operational effectiveness.
  • Support business continuity and resilience planning for critical customer journeys.

Oversee Risk Management & Controls

  • Lead risk assessments across business functions and strategic initiatives.
  • Monitor operational risk profile, key risk indicators, and remediation activities.
  • Review control effectiveness and oversee closure of significant risk issues.
  • Ensure audit findings, regulatory actions, and management commitments are addressed in a timely and sustainable manner.

Incident Management & Customer Outcome Oversight

  • Oversee the management of significant operational and customer-impact incidents.
  • Review root cause analyses and ensure corrective actions address underlying causes rather than symptoms.
  • Identify recurring issues and systemic weaknesses impacting customers, advisers, or operational processes.
  • Drive lessons learned and continuous improvement initiatives across the business.
  • Escalate material operational risks and incidents to senior management where appropriate.

Oversee Live Verification & Change Assurance

  • Provide oversight of business live verification activities following major system releases, platform enhancements, and production deployments.
  • Ensure critical customer journeys and operational controls are validated in production.
  • Ensure completeness and quality of verification activities and business sign-offs.
  • Monitor post-deployment performance and ensure issues are identified, escalated, and remediated promptly.
  • Partner with Technology and Regional Platform teams to strengthen deployment governance and implementation readiness practices.

What We're Looking For

Experience

  • 8-12+ years of experience in Operational Risk, Business Controls, Governance, Audit, COO, Operational Excellence, or Business Risk functions.
  • Experience supporting Wealth Management, Financial Planning, Investments, Insurance, or Banking businesses.
  • Strong understanding of advisory, investment, insurance, and customer servicing processes.
  • Experience partnering with technology and platform teams on business change initiatives.
  • Proven track record of influencing senior stakeholders and driving change across complex environments.

Key Attributes

  • Strategic thinker with strong commercial acumen.
  • Strong risk management and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Ability to balance customer outcomes, business priorities, and risk considerations.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and influencing skills.
  • Comfortable operating in a fast-paced and evolving environment.
