Job Description

Incumbent is responsible for securing competitively priced fuel supply and setting the fuel pricing strategy and related execution for UDF convenience stores to achieve optimum profitability while maintaining acceptable volume targets. Develops fuel pricing strategy and serves as knowledge expert in fuel pricing analytics, overseeing daily pricing for 165+ convenience stores. Identifies opportunities to continuously improve UDF’s pricing strategies / processes by analyzing movements in sales and margins across markets, monitoring competitor activity, and measuring impacts on UDF’s network.

Negotiates with national and regional refiners / suppliers to purchase fuel at competitive pricing formulas.

Acts as Compliance Office for Company for storage and handling of Motor Fuel at company’s stores ensuring State and Federal environmental laws are adhered to.

Responsible for development & maintenance of company Electronic Vehicle strategy.

Participate in various internal and external committees:, Real Estate, Retail Strategy, Ohio Energy and Convenience Marketers Assoc.

Potential future responsibilities will include: Negotiate wholesale fuel relationships to sell fuel to external companies ensuring PMPA guidelines adhered to. Manage the bulk plant hedge operation and ensure profitability and environmental compliance. Manage Prescott fuel transportation & logistics team of internal drivers and dispatchers who pick up and deliver fuels to UDF and customer stations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Monitor changes and trends with various PADD pricing to ensure the best combination of pricing formulas is used with Fuel Suppliers.
  • Manage and monitor the day-to-day fuel pricing based on a combination of proprietary and licensed software applications. This includes assessing the pricing of fuel by analyzing market trends and making the most cost-effective decision for each specific location.
  • Close coordination with Operations to create, validate and maintain local pricing insights with the market environment.
  • Oversees a team that serves as the primary contact for all issues related to fuel pricing / product supply and environmental compliance.
  • Analyzes multiple factors such as competitor surveys, store strategies, market conditions, and key performance indicators to set the daily fuel prices for the Company stores.
  • Serves as a knowledge expert in fuel pricing strategies and competitor landscape across all UDF markets.
  • Monitors individual store performance through various reporting tools and provides recommendations for strategy solutions as needed.
  • Collaborate with wide variety of stakeholders across operations, marketing, and IT on day-to-day execution, training and integrations, and improvement opportunities.
  • Continuously Identify opportunities to improve UDF’s existing pricing strategies by analyzing movements in sales and margins across markets, monitoring competitor activity, and measuring impacts on UDF’s network
  • Develop and implement tools and processes to improve pricing execution (i.e., information collection, price determination and communication) and performance optimization (i.e., data management and analysis).
  • Enhances UDF’s pricing execution capability through development of re-usable processes and tools, improving its efficiency, accuracy, and analytics.
  • Monitor changes in State and Federal UST compliance, understand how they relate to Company and incorporate necessary changes to processes using optimal mix of in house and third-party teams to ensure Company remains compliant with changing rules and regulations.
  • Remain current on new developments in Fuel equipment and select what is best for Company.
  • Remain current with State and Federal Grant programs to offset cost of new product installations i.e., E-85 and E-15 Federal HBIIP 1.0 and 2.0 grants, various Grants for EV installation, VW and NEVI.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • College degree in Business, Fuel/Petroleum Mgmt, Retail Operations or relevant experience
  • Four to six years’ experience in Fuel Pricing Management
  • Experience in the C-store industry & retail fuel preferred
  • Preferred experience with oil & gas supply working in or with major U.S. oil downstream suppliers

  • Demonstrated experience in Fuel Pricing, strategic planning, Margin analysis, Fuel hedging.

  • Focused on financial performance and demonstrated ability to develop P&L and budgets that balance revenue, growth and profitability.
  • Strong Analytical skills and Strategic planning skills
  • Ability to problem-solve with various levels of complexity including highly complex challenges.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills and attention-to-detail (strong tactical execution, project management)
  • Strong relationship management and interpersonal skills (high EQ)
  • Prior experience in budgeting, contract negotiation and qualifying equipment.

  • Ability to utilize the data to “story-tell” in a compelling manner to drive a strategic shift in the business or support an existing strategic priority for growth.
  • Ability to develop and communicate findings and recommendations.
  • Fundamental understanding of key financial and retail performance metrics
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and possess the ability to present information to external and internal groups.
  • Ability to operate in a complex, rapidly changing environment while adhering to tight schedules and budgets.
  • Demonstrated project management skills and proven ability to balance multiple projects in varying degrees of implementation.
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving and attention to detail skills are required.
  • Must be well-organized and able to coordinate multiple tasks and requests.

  • Developing the appropriate talent pool to ensure adequate bench strength and succession planning; recognizing and rewarding associates for accomplishments.
  • Incumbent also holds his direct reports accountable for performing the same functions and activities with their direct reports if applicable.
  • Responsible for growing associate engagement within the team as measured by regular engagement surveys.

COMPUTER / TECHNICAL:

  • Proficient in MS Word, Excel, Power Point
  • Proficient with Fuel Pricing/Management systems i.e., Kalibrate
  • Proficient with Environmental Compliance Software i.e., SSA, Titan Cloud

Our family opened the first United Dairy Farmers in 1940. In those days, most people were paying a premium to have milk delivered to their homes. Talk about a disruptive concept - we cut the price of milk nearly in half for our customers. While early adopters raved about the conveniences of our store, it was our products made with care that kept people coming back. That was especially true of our ice cream. With our fresh cream and fruits, real vanilla and other quality ingredients, our ice cream quickly became a local favorite.

As word of mouth grew, so did we. Over 30 years ago, we created a new line of ice cream - Homemade Brand. One of our very first flavors was a crazy idea at the time. . . What if we mixed our special recipe vanilla ice cream with oreo cookies? And with that idea, we introduced Homemade Brand Cookies 'N Cream which was the first of it's kind and became an instant classic.
