Job Description

The VP Commercial Strategy will serve as the strategic business partner to Evotec’s a specific business segment, driving the development and execution of commercial strategies that accelerate growth, profitability, and strategic alignment across the business.

The role is responsible for shaping the product and service offering across standalone research services, integrated discovery and development programs, and strategic partnerships — ensuring Evotec’s value proposition remains differentiated, scalable, and aligned with client needs and corporate goals.

Key Responsibilities

1. Strategic Planning & Business Alignment

  • Partner with the SVP, Commercial Strategy, and segment leadership to define and execute the segment’s commercial strategy in alignment with Evotec’s corporate priorities and growth ambitions.

  • Translate Evotec’s strategic pillars into actionable business plans and commercial objectives for the respective segment.

  • Support the development of the annual and long-range business plans, including revenue, margin, and market expansion goals.

  • Identify growth opportunities in target therapeutic areas, client segments, and geographies.

2. Product & Offer Strategy

  • Shape the commercial offering portfolio across standalone CRO services, integrated end-to-end R&D solutions (“Integrated Discovery” and “Integrated Development”), and long-term strategic alliances

  • Collaborate with scientific, business development, and operations teams to define differentiated value propositions, pricing frameworks, and delivery models for each offer type.

  • Support design and packaging of modular offerings that enable flexibility for clients while maximizing Evotec’s operational leverage.

  • Drive commercial readiness for new service capabilities or technology platforms, ensuring alignment between market needs and internal capacity.

3. Commercial Insight & Performance Management

  • Lead commercial performance tracking for the CRO segment, analyzing revenue mix, client profitability, and pipeline conversion metrics.

  • Partner with Finance and Operations to model scenarios and assess commercial levers influencing margin improvement.

  • Develop performance dashboards and insights to inform data-driven strategic decision-making.

  • Identify underperforming areas and develop recovery or optimization strategies.

4. Market & Competitive Intelligence

  • Monitor CRO market trends, client needs, and competitor strategies to inform Evotec’s commercial positioning and offering evolution.

  • Provide forward-looking insights on emerging technologies (e.g., AI-driven drug discovery, data platforms, modality shifts) that could enhance Evotec’s value proposition.

  • Support market segmentation and targeting strategies to focus resources on high-value opportunities.

5. Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Act as the bridge between Operations, Business Development, Finance, and the central Commercial Strategy function, ensuring strong strategic alignment and execution consistency.

  • Partner with BD teams to refine go-to-market approaches, pricing strategies, and client engagement models.

  • Support the SVP and CRO leadership in strategic projects such as portfolio prioritization, partnership models, and commercial process optimization.

6. Strategic Communication & Leadership Support

  • Prepare and deliver strategic presentations, business cases, and performance reviews for executive and board-level discussions.

  • Contribute to internal communication of the CRO commercial strategy, ensuring clarity and alignment across regions and functions.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Business, Life Sciences, or related discipline; MBA or advanced business qualification preferred.

  • 6-8 years of experience in commercial strategy, corporate strategy, or business development within the CRO, CDMO, biotech, or pharma sector.

  • Proven track record of developing and executing commercial strategies that drive growth and profitability in a science-based business environment.

  • Strong understanding of the drug discovery and development value chain and the dynamics of CRO and integrated R&D partnerships.

  • Experience in portfolio design, pricing models, and offer structuring (standalone, integrated, strategic alliances).

  • Exceptional analytical, financial modeling, and strategic communication skills.

  • Ability to influence senior stakeholders and lead cross-functional teams in a matrix environment.
