Job Description

We are seeking a VoIP Network Engineer to join our Infrastructure Network team and lead the design, operation, and modernization of our enterprise voice infrastructure. This role is responsible for managing our hybrid Avaya communications environment, resolving complex technical issues, supporting day-to-day operations, and leading strategic initiatives to improve the reliability, security, and scalability of our telecommunications systems.

Essential Job Duties:

  1. Design, configure, and maintain on-premises hybrid PBX system (Analog and VoIP), including but not limited to user profiles, IVRs, auto attendants, call queues, and endpoint configurations.
  2. Lead the planning, design, and implementation of future VoIP modernization initiatives, including the migration toward a fully IP-based communications platform.
  3. Design, implement, and support unified communications infrastructure, including Avaya systems, SIP trunks, media gateways, session border controllers (where applicable), softphones, desk phones, and related telecom equipment.
  4. Configure and maintain Quality of Service (QoS) policies across LAN and WAN environments to ensure reliable, high-quality voice communications.
  5. Troubleshoot and resolve complex telephony issues, including call failures, one-way audio, poor call quality, latency, jitter, packet loss, SIP signaling issues, and endpoint connectivity problems.
  6. Manage Direct Inward Dial (DID) numbers, toll-free numbers (TFNs), SIP trunks, and telecommunications services in coordination with carriers, ISPs, and third-party vendors.
  7. Implement and maintain security best practices for voice and network infrastructure, including system hardening, secure signaling and media protocols, access controls, and vulnerability remediation.
  8. Assist with enterprise networking projects and operational support as needed.

  9. Provide technical guidance and leadership to network engineers, or other team members.

  10. Troubleshoot complex network issues, identify and remediate performance bottlenecks, and ensure optimal network performance.

  11. Collaborate with various teams, including IT, business, and vendors, to translate business requirements into technical solutions.

  12. Maintain detailed documentation of telecom and network designs, configurations, and performance metrics.

  13. Keep abreast of the latest VoIP and network technologies and industry trends.

Minimum Qualifications:

Location -- Onsite

Education -- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Networking, Electrical Engineering, or a related field or an equivalent amount of hands-on experience.

Experience -- Minimum of 5 years of IT infrastructure experience with a bachelor’s degree in a related field, or

-- Minimum of 8 years of IT infrastructure experience without a degree.

-- Working knowledge of VoIP protocols (SIP, H.323), PBX systems, and call center technologies

Skills

  • Strong understanding of SIP, H.323, RTP, and TCP/IP networking, plus hands-on experience with platforms like Avaya or Cisco Unified Communications Manager (CUCM).

  • Familiarity with scripting languages (e.g., Python, bash)

  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills

  • Relevant certifications (e.g., CCNA Voice, CCNP Collaboration) are preferred.
