During training, Volunteers will live in a private room within a host family’s house. Volunteers will then move to an urban or peri-urban community not far from the vocational school where they will work. Housing accommodations may range from simple two‑room homes to modest walk‑up apartments. Amenities vary by site, and while some locations offer running water and electricity, access is not guaranteed. Available transportation includes taxis, bajajs (three-wheeled transport), minibuses, and buses.

Build classroom experience teaching courses in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) at vocational training centers.
Develop marketable skills in curriculum development, workforce-readiness training, and collaborative instruction.
Learn Swahili while developing strong community relationships and experiencing Tanzanian culture.
Review and update curricula to integrate modern, practical teaching methods that strengthen the relevance of vocational training.
Introduce creative, innovative classroom approaches that boost youth engagement and improve employment outcomes.
Coach students to build confidence and pursue ambitious career goals.
Teach core computer skills, including word processing, presentation development, and AI.
Facilitate life-skills sessions covering interpersonal communication, problem-solving, career planning, creative thinking, decision-making, and leadership.
Promote youth engagement through sports, recreation, and creative clubs and camps.
You may also work on additional projects that meet the community’s interests and priorities, such as supporting youth talent shows or career fairs.
After a three-week orientation on topics such as health and safety, you will move to an urban or a peri-urban community where you will collaborate with the vocational center staff to assess STEM education needs and develop a workplan in line with their established goals.
Peace Corps/Tanzania will equip you with Swahili language training and resources. You may also work with a tutor who can help you build basic language skills to connect with the community.

Couples who are selected for the same sector will live together but work with different local partners, which may be in the same community or in neighboring communities (not more than 30 minutes apart)., Cohabitating couples are highly encouraged to present themselves as married throughout service due to cultural expectations.
Couples will live together during training but may separate occasionally for field-based activities.
Each person must apply separately and qualify for a position in the same sector as their partner.
