Within the context of a client and family-centred framework and continuum based care model and in accordance with established standards of professional practice and the vision and values of the organization, including Indigenous Cultural Safety, cultural humility and anti-racism principles, the Vocational Rehabilitation Counsellor provides a specialized counselling service to assist clients with disabilities to explore vocational potential and address barriers to employment. Duties include receiving referrals, screening and assessing clients' vocational potential, counselling and guiding clients in the selection of sustainable occupational goals, developing vocational plans, assisting with accessing resources for job finding or training, including liaising with sponsorship agencies and other service providers, contacting insurers and previous employers to assist with return to work, and monitoring client progress. QUALIFICATIONS:Education & Experience Master’s Degree in a related health science discipline such as rehabilitation or clinical counselling. One year’s recent vocational rehabilitation or career counselling experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience Eligibility for certification as a rehabilitation professional with a recognized association such as Certified Vocational Rehabilitation Professional (CVRP), Registered Rehabilitation Professional (RRP), or Registered Vocational Professional (RVP). Knowledge, Skills & AbilitiesBroad knowledge of disease processes and understanding of the ways in which health conditions affect employability.Broad knowledge of other health care disciplines and their role in client care.Broad knowledge of research process and methodology.Knowledge of human rights legislation as it pertains to disability and employment.Demonstrated ability to provide effective consultation.Demonstrated vocational rehabilitation counselling skills, including intake and assessment skills, individual and group counselling skills, case formulation skills, case management skills, and goal planning skills.Demonstrated ability to administer and interpret Level B measures of interests, values, personality, and abilities. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with co-workers, physicians, other health care staff, and clients and their families, both one-on-one and in groups.Broad knowledge of trauma informed practice and harm reduction approaches and strengths-based care.Demonstrated ability to promote Indigenous Cultural Safety. Demonstrated ability to provide competent and culturally safety care in a variety of settings and with diverse populationsDemonstrated ability/sensitivity to working with a diverse population of clients with health-related barriers to employment. Demonstrated ability to establish workload priorities in collaboration with others.Demonstrated ability to work independently and in collaboration with others.Demonstrated ability to operate related equipment including word processing, spreadsheet and database skills.Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.The hours of work including days off and work area may be subject to change consistent with operational requirements and the provision of the Collective Agreement and applicable statutes.
