Comunilife Inc is looking for a Vocational Counselor for its new program in the Bronx, El Borinquen. The Vocational Counselor is responsible for providing vocational services to clients living at El Borinquen. They will be responsible for assessing/evaluating the client’s level of education, work experience and aptitude; for the purpose of formulating a vocational and/or Employment Plan, which will become part of the service plan(s). They will also assist in providing instruction in the preparation of resumes, referrals for job training, trade school and other institutions in addition to accompanying clients in the field on occasions. This position is eligible for Comunilife's generous benefits and paid time off package.

Essential Duties

  • Assess clients ability and motivation for psycho-social rehabilitation ( educational, vocational and employment)

  • Provide referrals to employment programs for training and placement for competitive, supported or volunteer job opportunities.

  • Provide supportive counseling and vocational related services to clients/families,

  • Assist in the development and implementation of the comprehensive service plans and service plan reviews that identify mutually agreed upon long and short-term vocational/employment related goals.

  • Responsible for contacts as specified in the service plan(s).

  • Implement rehabilitation/vocational weekly training program to teach work/school preparation skills;

  • Provide assistance in activities for daily living; assistance in employment assessments, training, and private sector placement services; and other necessary services to clients to increase their capacity for independent living, such as resume writing, interviewing, etc.

  • Provide linkage to other Educational and Vocational Programs in the community.

  • Participate in case conferences, training and team meetings as required.

  • Responsible for the timely completion and documentation of assessments, evaluations, vocational/employment plan(s), progress notes, training/group notes as determined by program standards.



Qualifications

Education and Experience Requirement(s)

  • Minimum Bachelor’s Degree in Human Services, Education or related area and

  • Two (2) years’ experience in Vocational, Employment and Educational counseling, training and referrals particularly with HIV+/AIDS affected populations and/or substance abuse individuals.

  • Preference given to persons with experience in Scattered Sites Programs,

  • Bi-lingual, bi-cultural in Spanish

Activities include academic support, creative arts therapies, music lessons, wellness activities and concrete family services, are designed to reduce the risk factors associated with Latina adolescent suicide.
