
The Department of Social Services (DSS) is comprised of the administrative units of the New York City Human Resources Administration (HRA) and the Department of Homeless Services (DHS). HRA is dedicated to fighting poverty and income inequality by providing New Yorkers in need with essential benefits such as Food Assistance and Emergency Rental Assistance. DHS is committed to preventing and addressing homelessness in New York City by employing a variety of innovative strategies to help families and individuals successfully exit shelter and return to self-sufficiency as quickly as possible.
Information Technology Services (ITS) is DSS’s technology services organization. ITS mission is to support the daily, emergent, and long-term needs of both agencies. ITS creates and enhances the technology infrastructure and computer applications that support HRA and DHS and develops applications, including a variety of client eligibility and recertification systems, case management systems, housing systems, employment/work engagement services, revenue producing computer matches, claiming systems, and personnel systems.
Information Technology Services (ITS) is recruiting for one (1) IT Infrastructure Engineer, to function as VMWARE and Windows Infrastructure Administrator, who will:
- Perform complex technical and project work supporting the design, implementation, administration, and continuous improvement of enterprise VMware, Microsoft Windows Server, and cloud-based infrastructure environments.
- Apply specialized expertise in virtualization, systems administration, cloud technologies, infrastructure security, and project delivery to support agency business objectives, improve operational resiliency, and ensure the availability, performance, and scalability of critical information technology services.
- Lead infrastructure initiatives, provide technical guidance to staff, and develop recommendations regarding technology investments, architecture, and operational best practices.
- Design, implement, configure, and administer enterprise VMware virtualization environments, including VMware ESXi and vCenter, to provide secure, scalable, and highly available server infrastructure supporting agency operations.
- Deploy, configure, and support cloud-based infrastructure services utilizing Amazon Web Services technologies, including Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2), Virtual Private Cloud (VPC), Simple Storage Service (S3), Route 53, Load Balancers, and Relational Database Service (RDS), to support business and technical requirements.
- Monitor, maintain, and optimize infrastructure performance, availability, security, and capacity by performing system monitoring, patch management, upgrades, vulnerability remediation, and preventive maintenance activities.

1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college in computer science, engineering or a related field and four years of satisfactory full-time experience related to datacenter engineering and operations, cloud engineering and operations, complex IT infrastructure engineering; or,
2. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and eight years of satisfactory full-time experience related to datacenter engineering and operations, cloud engineering and operations, complex IT infrastructure engineering; or,
3. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above.
