Summary
The Visual Arts Program Coordinator plays a key role in positioning the Evelyn Rubenstein JCC as a vibrant hub for visual arts in Houston. This position oversees the coordination and growth of visual arts programming across the Center, including managing the Art Gallery season, expanding art classes for all ages, and supporting the development of innovative programs. This position includes direct instruction and collaborative programming responsibilities.
Primary Responsibilities
- Oversee and maintain the Art Studio and Ceramics Studio, ensuring spaces are organized, clean, well-stocked, and safe for use.
- Recruit, hire, and onboard qualified art instructors.
- Lead the Art Camp program during summer months, including instruction in the classroom.
- Teach 3 classes a week.
- Coordinate the seasonal schedule of art classes (Spring, Summer, Fall) for children and adults in collaboration with staff, instructors, and participants.
- Support instructors in developing class syllabi, descriptions, and supply lists.
- Track program expenses.
- Work with Culinary to schedule 4 Culinary & Crafts Camps between September and May.
- In collaboration with the Bertha Alyce Academy, select a project for Fall and Spring that students complete as part of the Artist in Residence program.
- Process supply orders and generate purchase orders in a timely manner.
- Collaborate with the Marketing team to promote art classes and events.
Art Gallery Coordination
- Work with the Arts & Culture Director to curate and schedule 4–6 exhibitions annually.
- Plan and coordinate opening receptions and supporting gallery events.
- Schedule and lead tours for visiting groups.
- Cultivate relationships with local artists, galleries, and cultural organizations to increase gallery visibility.
- Install and de-install exhibits using the gallery's hanging system and coordinate shipping logistics when needed.
- Coordinate gallery signage and website updates with the Marketing team.
Communication
With Students
- Communicate schedule updates and changes in a timely manner.
- Maintain open lines for feedback, questions, and concerns.
- Meet once per session with each class to discuss goals and desired improvements.
With Instructors
- Collect input for new class and workshop ideas.
- Manage scheduling and class coordination.
- Provide tools for instructors to track hours and report feedback.
- Support instructors in identifying growth opportunities within the studio.
Agency Expectations
- Attend all staff meetings.
- Participate in agency-wide in-service training programs.
- Participate in agency-wide Open House/Program Registration days as required.

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Visual Arts, Art Education, Fine Arts, Arts Administration, Museum Studies, Education, or a related field.
- Minimum of 2–3 years of experience coordinating visual arts programs, teaching art classes, or managing arts-based programming for children, teens, and/or adults.
- Experience working with a variety of artistic mediums including drawing, painting, ceramics, mixed media, and digital art.
- Experience working with children strongly preferred.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
