Job Description

Join the Visitor Services team at the National Aquarium of New Zealand on a 1-year fixed term contract and play a key role in creating memorable experiences for our guests. This varied role rotates across admissions, retail, café, and events, giving you the chance to welcome visitors, sell tickets and tours, serve in the café, support retail sales, and help deliver functions and birthday parties. No two days are the same, and you’ll be part of a supportive roster that ensures a fair share of weekends off.

We’re looking for someone with great people skills, a can-do attitude, and a passion for delivering excellent service. You’ll bring experience in customer service, hospitality or retail, be confident with cash handling and computers, and enjoy working as part of a team. Te Āheinga - The Opportunity

  • Engage with visitors at front-of-house, sharing local knowledge, answering queries, and promoting aquarium experiences and memberships.

  • Support our café and retail spaces by serving customers, maintaining high hygiene standards, and seeking opportunities for additional sales.

  • Help bring events to life, from responding to party bookings to assisting with set-up, service, and pack-down for functions and celebrations.

He kōrero mōhou - About You

  • Confident communicator with a passion for delivering top-notch customer service across front-of-house, food service, and retail.

  • 1–2 years of experience in a customer service role.

  • Solid computer skills and attention to detail.

This is fixed term opportunity for one year. You’ll work 33 hours per week across 4 days as rostered (over 7 days an including public holidays). You will be based at the National Aquarium of New Zealand on Napier’s Marine Parade.

The annual salary package for this role, pro-rated for 33 hours per week, is between $43,100-$50,800 (including KiwiSaver), with the final offer depending on your skills and experience.
