About Our Opportunity

Do you enjoy working with people and creating positive visitor experiences? The Shubenacadie Wildlife Park is seeking Visitor Experience Clerks to serve as the first point of contact for visitors and help ensure every guest receives exceptional customer service.

Visitor Experience Clerks take pride in:

• Professionally welcoming visitors and processing admissions
• Providing information about the Wildlife Park, programs, exhibits and surrounding area
• Operating point-of-sale systems and processing sales transactions
• Answering questions and resolving customer concerns
• Maintaining a clean, safe and welcoming admissions area for staff and

Secondary duties may include:

• Balancing cash and preparing daily deposits
• Cleaning and maintaining admissions facilities and public washrooms
• Assisting with inventory control and merchandise displays
• Supporting special events and visitor programs
• Assisting with weather-related activities including sweeping, sanding and snow removal as required

As a Visitor Experience Clerk, you will work under the supervision of the Visitor Experience Supervisor.

Primary Accountabilities

As the first staff member many visitors interact with, you will set the tone for their visit. You will utilize excellent customer service, communication, and problem-solving skills to address visitor inquiries, difficult customer situations, unexpected visitor volumes, and booking issues.

You will be responsible for:

• Processing admissions, merchandise sales and other financial transactions
• Maintaining accurate cash handling and accounting records
• Balancing and preparing daily revenue deposits
• Providing accurate information regarding the Wildlife Park and local attractions
• Maintaining a safe, clean and welcoming visitor environment
• Working independently while prioritizing tasks and responding to operational requirements as they arise

Qualifications and Experience

You've completed Grade 12 or have an equivalent combination of training and experience.

To be successful in this role, you should possess, confirm in your cover letter, and be prepared to demonstrate:

• Experience working with cash transactions, balancing, deposits, and basic accounting procedures
• Experience operating cash registers and point-of-sale systems
• Excellent customer service and communication skills
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
• Strong problem-solving abilities and sound judgment
• Ability to stand for extended periods and work in a fast-paced environment.

The following are considered assets:

• Previous tourism, hospitality, retail, admissions, or visitor services experience
• Knowledge of the Shubenacadie Wildlife Park and local tourism attractions
• Knowledge of park directives, departmental policies and procedures
• Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety requirements
• Experience working with public education or recreation facilities

We will assess the above qualifications using one or more of the following tools: written examination, standardized tests, oral presentations, interview(s), and reference checks.

Equivalency

Applicants relying on education and experience equivalencies must demonstrate such equivalencies in their application.

Working Conditions

• Weekend, and evening work is required, often outside in all weather conditions.
• Work is primarily conducted in a small admissions office with frequent interaction with the public.
• Periods of high visitor volume require sustained concentration, accuracy and customer service excellence.
• Employees may occasionally be required to perform light groundskeeping, cleaning and weather-related duties.
• Ability to work independently while maintaining a high level of professionalism is essential.

Additional Information

Currently, there is a casual position available from October to May, primarily as weekend and evening shifts, often outdoors in all weather conditions.

The Wildlife Park welcomes approximately 100,000 visitors annually, making the Visitor Experience Clerk an important ambassador for both the Park and the Department.

Pay Grade: CL 05

Salary Range: $21.08 - $22.86 Hourly
