The Clemson University Richard A. McMahan School of Architecture (RAMSoA) invites applicants for a visiting faculty member to serve as the W. Reaves McCall ’54 Endowed Professorship in Architecture, in architectural design and architectural history and theory, beginning August 15, 2026 The successful applicant will join the RAMSoA faculty and design community and hold this distinguished title for the 2026-27 academic year.
This position is ideal for young emerging educators seeking a pathway to academic practice as well mid-career professionals interrogating contemporary design issues. We seek a visiting professor who can inspire our students to advance design thinking in a constantly changing world. The successful candidate will teach at different levels across the curriculum in undergraduate and graduate programs. The teaching load consists of a core undergraduate design studio along with a core lecture course or seminar in architectural history and theory each fall and spring semester. All faculty are expected to support the operations of the program, school, college, and/or university through service on committees or other leadership roles. Expectations for this one-year (two-semester) visiting position entails teaching one design studio and one history and theory seminar each semester, along with a public lecture on the subject of the professors’ research.
The W. Reaves McCall ’54 Endowed Professorship in Architecture was established and endowed in 2014 with the goal of attracting and retaining faculty of the highest caliber for engagement with faculty and students at Clemson University’s Richard A. McMahan School of Architecture. In addition to a competitive salary, additional funded support for teaching and research activities will be available pending review of the successful applicant’s proposed budget. The Clemson University RAMSoA provides multiple pathways in the discipline of Architecture, beginning with a Bachelor of Arts in Architecture degree program. The accredited degree program of Master of Architecture includes an option for an Architecture, Society and the City certificate focusing on history and theory. The cross-disciplinary Design and the Built Environment PhD Program also offers history and theory as a research area. · Hold a Bachelor of Architecture, Master of Architecture, or other accredited, professional, terminal degree in architecture, as awarded in the United States or the international equivalent. Applicants with a Bachelor of Architecture must also hold a Master or PhD in Architecture History and Theory or in a closely related field.
· Have completed AXP architectural internship (or international equivalent) or be ABD, with the completion of doctoral degree requirements by July 1 of 2026.
· Applicants should demonstrate English language proficiency in written and oral communications requisite for this visiting faculty position.
