
This collaboration between my group at Argonne National Laboratory and Professor Michelle Driscoll’s group at Northwestern University will support research on active colloids through joint experimental work and student training. The student will participate in day-to-day activities in my lab under my supervision, including fabrication of microchannel-based experimental cells using multiphoton lithography, preparation of samples, performing experiments on active magnetic colloids, and collecting microscopy data with a digital camera.
The collaboration will benefit Argonne by enabling research progress on an existing project in active colloids through the development of specialized experimental platforms and the acquisition of new data. It will benefit Northwestern University by providing the student with hands-on training in advanced microfabrication and active matter experimentation, complementing the soft matter expertise of Professor Driscoll’s group. The expected outputs of the collaboration include fabricated experimental cells, microscopy datasets, and progress toward research results that will support ongoing studies of active colloidal systems.
Education and Experience Requirements
• The entirety of the appointment must be conducted within the United States.
• Must be 18 years or older at the time the appointment begins.
• Applicants must be:
o Currently enrolled in undergraduate or graduate studies at an accredited institution.
o Graduated from an accredited institution within the past 3 months; or
o Actively enrolled in a graduate program at an accredited institution.
