
In this internship, the central focus is on conducting electrochemistry studies in molten salts and developing electroanalytical tools for these systems. This internship will take place within the Chemical and Fuel Cycle Technologies Division at Argonne National Laboratory. The primary duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, electrode and microelectrode fabrication, molten salt handling, and performing electrochemical measurements using a variety of techniques (e.g., voltammetry, potentiometry) within glovebox environments. Two main projects will beconducted during this internship, both of which pertain to the advancement of pyroprocessing technologies. In the first project, the behavior and properties of corrosion impurities within the oxide reduction (OR) salt will be investigated using electrochemical methods.
Separately, in a different project, ultramicroelectrodes (UMEs, radii < 25 μm) will be fabricated and tested for stability, sensitivity, and accuracy in molten salts.
