Project Overview:

Bechtel and Westinghouse Electric Company have partnered to deliver the first AP1000 nuclear power reactors in Poland for our customer, the Polish Entity Polskie Elektrownie Jadrowe (PEJ). Bechtel will be the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contractor for the project. As the EPC, our responsibilities will include providing the design for the Turbine Island and Balance of Plant as well as the construction of the entire facility.

This is a one-of-a-kind opportunity, and we are looking for the talent that will help expand Poland’s nuclear base and build a strong and long-lasting energy future for generations to come.

This position is subject to U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) regulation 10 CFR Part 810, which governs the transfer of hardware, materials, and technology to support the construction and operation of commercial nuclear power plants overseas.

The VDC (Virtual Design & Construction) Engineer is responsible for coordinating digital project delivery and ensuring that engineering, schedule, and construction information is effectively integrated within the project's digital environment. The role focuses on managing and coordinating 3D models, BIM processes, project data, and 4D planning activities to support efficient project execution.

Working closely with engineering, project controls, procurement, construction, and client teams, the VDC Engineer ensures that design models, project schedules, and project information remain aligned throughout the project lifecycle. The position also supports the implementation of BIM standards, the Project Information Model (PIM), and other digital tools that enable a data-driven approach to project delivery.

This role is best suited for candidates with experience in BIM, 3D model coordination, engineering design, construction planning, or multidisciplinary project coordination who enjoy working at the intersection of engineering, technology, and project execution.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Support the implementation of Bechtel’s Virtual Design & Construction (VDC) strategy and contribute to the successful digital delivery of the project.
  • Develop and maintain 4D construction simulations by integrating 3D engineering models with project schedules to visualize construction sequencing and project progress.
  • Coordinate closely with Engineering, Project Controls, Procurement, and Construction teams to ensure alignment between design, schedule, and execution activities.
  • Support the development of construction work packages and digital solutions that improve project planning and delivery.
  • Promote the use of BIM, VDC, and digital engineering tools across the project and provide training and guidance to project teams where required.
  • Develop dashboards, reports, and performance metrics that help teams make informed, data-driven decisions.
  • Identify and implement opportunities for innovation, process improvement, and digital transformation throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Ensure project information is managed effectively within the Common Data Environment (CDE) and complies with client requirements, Bechtel standards, and industry best practices, including ISO 19650.
  • Support the development and maintenance of digital models used for construction planning, sequencing, and execution.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university and at least 3 years of professional experience, or in lieu of a degree, a high school diploma or equivalent and at least 7 years of professional experience.
  • Possess the legal right to work and remain in Poland without sponsorship.
  • Must be able to pass nuclear security screening requirements and be able to obtain and maintain unescorted access to a nuclear power facility.

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Experience developing and managing 4D construction planning models by integrating 3D design models with project schedules.
  • Experience using 3D design and modeling software, such as Revit, Civil 3D, MicroStation, AutoCAD, OpenRoads/InRoads, ESRI, AVEVA E3D, or similar tools.
  • Background in Engineering, Construction, Project Controls, Procurement, Digital Delivery, Automation, or Information Systems, with an interest in improving project execution through innovative technologies and processes.
  • Experience working with Power BI and other data analytics, reporting, or visualization tools.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to explain new technologies, digital tools, and work processes to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Self-motivated and proactive, with the ability to influence stakeholders and drive initiatives in a collaborative, matrix-based environment.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities, adapt to changing business needs, and provide guidance or leadership to project teams when required.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Experience implementing 4D Planning VDC processes on large scale (50m) construction sites, using schedule / model integration platforms. Synchro Pro, Fuzor, and/or Navisworks.
  • Automation or Information Systems experience with a passion for implementing new and innovative work processes.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage priorities and take on additional evolving responsibilities to engage and influence project execution teams.
