About the Role
Be part of an innovative, multi-platform newsroom delivering impactful journalism.
Global News is seeking two full-time ENG (Video) Editors for the Morning Show based in Toronto.
Reporting to the Executive Producer, TMS & Entertainment, you will contribute to the creation of compelling visual content for audiences across multiple markets and platforms.
The role is primarily early morning but could include shift work as required.
This position is designated as Group 2 under the current collective agreement.
You will contribute by:
• Edit video and audio into engaging content for entertainment, news, current affairs, and special programming across multiple platforms.
• Work both independently and collaboratively to produce creative, technically accurate content with minimal supervision.
• Collaborate with producers on rundowns, scripts, and audio/visual requirements across various formats and sources.
• Re-edit, enhance, and package incoming feeds, FTP content, affiliate material, and shared resources for multi-market use.
• Apply advanced effects techniques (e.g., packaging multi-cam shoots, blurring, pixelation, voice alteration, time-lapse, zoom, layering, highlighting footage).
• Develop and integrate graphic and packaging elements as required.
• Use graphic systems (e.g., Xpression) to manage templates, supers, banners, and full-frame visuals.
• Utilize news production systems, including rundowns, scripting, and timing workflows.
• Source and recommend visuals that enhance storytelling.
• Create and maintain stock reels for future use.
• Publish content and abstracts to websites and other social platforms
• Demonstrate a strong understanding of journalistic standards and newsroom practices.
Skills & experience you will bring:
• Post-secondary education in broadcast technology or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• Minimum 2 years’ experience with non-linear editing tools (e.g., Grass Valley Edius, Adobe Premiere, Final Cut Pro).
• Creative storyteller with a willingness to innovate and experiment in a digital news environment.
• Adaptable and comfortable navigating evolving technologies and media platforms
• Ability to perform under tight deadlines and in high-pressure environments.
• Strong knowledge of social media tools and digital distribution.
• Collaborative team player who contributes positively to team dynamics.
• Highly motivated with a positive attitude and openness to feedback.
• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships across teams.
• Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to manage conflict constructively.
