Job Description

Guardian Australia is part of Guardian News & Media (GNM), publisher of theguardian.com. As a leading global media organisation, we are renowned for our pioneering independent journalism and our award-winning digital products.

We are seeking a video editor, podcasts to join our Editorial team to create videos of Guardian Australia podcasts for YouTube, Instagram, TikTok and YouTube shorts. This role will work in consultation with the Guardian’s audio and video teams to transform podcast records into high-quality, full-length videos and short social clips.

This role is being offered on a full-time 12 month contract, with early starts and/or late finishes. This role is open to candidates based in Sydney.

In this role you will…

  • Edit Guardian Australia's Full Story podcast, Decoding America, Back to Back Barries and other podcasts as required for video platforms
  • Work with Guardian Australia’s audio producers to ensure audio and video edits are in sync, while refining pace, applying basic colour grading and implementing feedback from executive producers
  • Use Adobe Premiere Pro to a high standard to edit accurately and quickly for audiences onsite, on YouTube and on our social media platforms
  • Source news footage and archive to edit into podcast videos
  • Pitch and create social cuts from full-length podcast episodes for Instagram, TikTok and YouTube Shorts
  • Work with the Guardian’s audio and video teams to promote Guardian Australia podcasts on social channels
  • Suggest and write headlines, standfirsts and thumbnails for onsite and social videos
  • Be an active user of social media channels to ensure Guardian Australia stays up-to-date with best practice and trends where appropriate
  • Work with the legal and rights teams as required

You’ll bring….

Knowledge and experience

  • At least one year experience working in a busy news environment
  • Premier Pro, Photoshop and Figma/Canva skills
  • A strong understanding of Australia’s social media, news and podcast landscape
  • Strong news sense of Australian and global news
  • Strong planning and organisational skills, plus experience juggling multiple deadlines
  • An understanding of the editorial aims and values of Guardian Australia
  • An understanding of the evolving ways people consume news video on and off platform
  • An awareness of the needs and interests of Guardian Australia’s audiences
  • An understanding of Australian media law and a desire to learn more
  • Understanding of diversity and inclusion issues
