The CTO, Software organization at HP is a global team of thousands of engineers and leaders shaping the future of how software and platform technologies power HP’s product portfolio. The organization is responsible for the vision, strategy, architecture, engineering, and operations of the software and platform technology stacks behind HP’s products. These include modern, AI-native, end-to-end platforms spanning developer experience, data and AI, security, infrastructure, reliability, as well as software stacks for customer-facing HP applications and on-device systems. The Vice President, Platform Engineering role oversees the platform technology stacks that support HP products. The scope includes the developer experience (DevEx), data and AI, security, infrastructure, and reliability. This executive position is critical to advancing HP’s software-led business transformation and growth by driving platform engineering excellence and enabling new efficiencies and operating models.
This role reports to the Chief Technology Officer, Software at HP. This leader will serve as a trusted partner to C-level executives and stakeholders across product and technology, with the opportunity to deliver sustained, company-wide impact at HP—a global technology leader and long-standing Fortune 100 company with more than 28,000 patents, over $55 billion in annual revenue, and 58,000 employees worldwide.
Responsibilities
Lead by example, fostering a culture of accountability, technology and architecture excellence, and a customer-first mindset across the organization.
Attract, build, lead, and develop a high-performing team of technology leaders with diverse expertise, perspectives, and backgrounds.
Lead the developer experience function, responsible for maximizing AI-enabled developer productivity, efficiency, and satisfaction by reducing friction across the software development lifecycle for thousands of developers building HP products’ software and platform technology stacks.
Lead the security function, responsible for making secure software delivery the default path, with security embedded into application software, platforms, pipelines, and engineering workflows.
Lead the data and AI function, responsible for developing and executing a new vision for delivering trusted data, AI, and ML capabilities that software, platform, and product teams can use safely and repeatedly.
Lead the infrastructure function, responsible for delivering scalable, cost-efficient, secure-by-default infrastructure primitives for all software and platform engineering teams.
Lead the reliability function, responsible for defining and leading the reliability strategy and execution for the shared platform services that power HP’s products and digital experiences.
Partner closely with stakeholders to implement and exemplify a true platform engineering producer-consumer model supported by well-defined, aligned service-level objectives
Qualifications
Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field; a Ph.D. is preferred.
Current or prior engineering experience operating at the VP level within an established technology company.
15+ years of relevant experience in engineering functions, including 8+ years in senior people management roles, and preferably 4+ years of technology / software engineering leadership experience managing global teams, serving multiple internal customer organizations, and delivering capabilities used by millions of users or supporting $100M+ businesses.
Demonstrable accomplishments in organizational development efficiencies and building a high-performing team of talented software engineers and leaders with diverse experiences, perspectives, and backgrounds.
Demonstrated success in delivering significant, measurable business value through engineering excellence, efficiency, and execution-speed improvements.
Deep technical expertise and experience in distributed systems, modern cloud-native software architecture, and modern AI-native software development lifecycle practices.
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, and the demonstrable ability to develop and deliver persuasive, senior-executive-level content.
Excellent collaboration and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build deep, trusted cross-organizational relationships.

The pay range for this role is$280,000 - $350,000 annually with additional opportunities for pay in the form of bonus and/or equity (applies to United States of America candidates only). Pay varies by work location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
This position can be located in Palo Alto, CA; Vancouver, WA; or Spring, TX.
