The Vice President of Specialty Contracting is responsible for the strategic leadership, development, negotiation, implementation, and ongoing management of specialty provider contracts across the organization's Independent Practice Association (IPA) network. This executive role drives specialty network performance by optimizing provider relationships, improving access to care, managing specialty costs, and supporting value-based care initiatives.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:
Contracting Strategy & Network Development
Develop and execute the organization's specialty contracting strategy to support growth, network adequacy, and financial performance.
Evaluate specialty network needs and identify opportunities to expand, optimize, or restructure provider relationships.
Lead market analysis, provider assessments, and network performance reviews to support strategic contracting decisions.
Establish and maintain strong relationships with specialty physician groups, ancillary providers, hospitals, and healthcare systems.
Contract Negotiation & Management
Lead complex negotiations for specialty physician, ancillary, and facility agreements.
Structure and negotiate fee-for-service, capitated, bundled payment, and value-based reimbursement arrangements.
Ensure contract terms align with organizational goals, financial targets, regulatory requirements, and quality initiatives.
Oversee contract implementation, renewals, amendments, and ongoing performance monitoring.
Financial Performance & Cost Management
Analyze specialty utilization, cost trends, referral patterns, and network performance metrics.
Develop strategies to improve specialty cost performance and reduce unnecessary variation in care delivery.
Partner with Finance and Medical Management teams to manage specialty capitation expenses and improve overall medical cost performance.
Identify opportunities to reduce network leakage and improve care coordination within the IPA network.
Provider Collaboration & Performance Improvement
Collaborate with Medical Directors, Network Physicians, and Operational Leaders to implement specialty network initiatives.
Lead Joint Operating Committee meetings and provider performance reviews.
Utilize data analytics to drive provider engagement and identify opportunities for quality improvement and cost reduction.
Support physician alignment efforts and value-based care transformation initiatives.
Leadership & Team Development
Provide strategic leadership and mentorship to Specialty Contracting and Network Management staff.
Foster a high-performance culture focused on accountability, collaboration, innovation, and results.
Establish departmental goals, performance metrics, and reporting structures.
Promote cross-functional partnerships to achieve organizational objectives.
Regulatory Compliance
Ensure compliance with all applicable state and federal regulations, health plan requirements, and accreditation standards.
Maintain contract documentation, audit readiness, and regulatory reporting requirements.
Monitor healthcare market trends and regulatory developments impacting specialty contracting strategies.
All other duties as directed by management
The pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between $160,000 - $180,000 annually; however, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, licensure, skills, and experience.
The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a sign-on bonus and discretionary awards in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered.
