Job Description

Overview

On behalf of our client, a growing, multi-site distributor of large-format home and commercial furnishings with distribution operations across the United States, we are seeking an accomplished Vice President of Operations to unify and strengthen a nationwide distribution and customer-service network. This is a true operating leadership role, not a strategy-only seat. You will build a disciplined, scalable multi-site operating model while improving service, cost, consistency, accountability, and execution across the network. Reporting directly to ownership and partnering closely with the VP of Sales, you will have direct influence over a nationwide operation, real ownership of how it runs, and visible impact on customers, culture, and results.

Key Responsibilities

  • Stabilize leadership, staffing, safety, and daily execution across the distribution center network
  • Standardize warehouse and customer-service procedures, controls, KPIs, and operating routines company-wide
  • Assess and implement a practical hub-and-spoke operating model, including facility roles, capacity, routing, will-call, and shipping methods
  • Improve carrier, 3PL, freight, and last-mile delivery performance
  • Own the national customer-service organization, including customer experience, response times, open-order execution, and service recovery
  • Identify underperforming locations and leadership gaps and build concrete action plans to close them
  • Build SOPs, budgets, and performance-management processes that scale across a growing network
  • Recruit, coach, and develop a stronger permanent bench of local operating leaders
  • Strengthen day-to-day coordination between Operations, Sales, and other functions to build a customer-focused operating culture
  • Spend regular, meaningful time inside facilities working alongside local teams, not managing exclusively through reports

Requirements

Required Qualifications

  • 10+ years of progressive operations leadership experience
  • Proven track record leading and improving complex, multi-site warehouse or distribution networks
  • Demonstrated success stabilizing operations and developing capable local leaders
  • Significant experience with freight, carrier, 3PL, routing, transfers, and last-mile delivery
  • Experience building SOPs, KPIs, budgets, and performance-management processes
  • Strong people leadership with meaningful safety and compliance responsibility
  • Excellent analytical judgment, communication skills, and business acumen
  • Comfortable spending substantial time on-site in distribution facilities
  • Bachelor's degree, or equivalent education combined with progressive operating experience
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States

Preferred Qualifications

  • Direct leadership of both distribution and customer-service functions
  • Experience with distribution-footprint rationalization or hub-and-spoke network design
  • Background in furniture, building products, appliances, flooring, cabinets/countertops, commercial equipment, plumbing/HVAC, or other bulky, high-cube product distribution
  • International container-flow or import logistics exposure
  • Experience partnering closely with a private ownership group or board
  • Track record building alignment across stakeholders before moving teams into execution

Benefits

  • Base salary: $170,000 to $210,000, based on experience and location
  • Annual performance bonus target:
  • Comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, and vision coverage, retirement plan, and paid time off (specific plan details shared during the interview process)
  • Additional benefits to be discussed with qualified candidates
