JOB INFORMATION:

Job Title:   Vice President of Operations
Department(s): 5007 - COPS Yard & Vessel
Location(s):  Garden City Terminal
FLSA Status:  Exempt


Under the supervision of the Chief Operating Officer, the Vice President of Operations is responsible for the overall management of the employees, condition of equipment, and budget within Georgia Ports Authority guidelines for all GPA Operations and Equipment Maintenance.

Upholds the values of the GPA to promote Safety, Integrity, Respect, Community, Creativity and Opportunity. Promotes a safe work environment by participating in safety initiatives and reporting unsafe conditions and behaviors.


JOB DUTIES:
  • Oversees all equipment maintenance, container operations, breakbulk, crane operations, and ship operations functions for efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
  • Provides executive support to the Chief Operating Officer.
  • Monitors revenue and expenses for all subordinate activities and sets productivity goals and standards. Budgets allotted funds to meet objectives and monitors expenditures.
  • Provides a continuous program of selection, evaluation, promotion, and training of management & supervisory personnel from all departments. Monitors employee morale for areas of grievance.
  • Oversees all administrative services such as scheduling, inventory, communications, and complaint adjudication for all container operations, maintenance & equipment, breakbulk, crane operations, and ship operations.
  • Sets goals and long-term plans to include the development of new facilities and equipment for more efficient operations.
  • Oversees & monitors safety programs within all areas of responsibility
  • Develops and maintains good communication and relationships with all departments of the GPA as well as all port partners; including State & Federal Agencies.
  • Provides input into engineering and technical activities of GPA, including the development and preparation of budgets, planning documents, studies, and conceptual designs. Reviews and approves criteria for equipment selection.
  • Develops operational and capital budgets in conjunction with the Finance Department.
  • Performs other duties as assigned

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Must be knowledgeable in general business procedures related to the shipping industry.
  • Must have an extensive work and management background in modern container terminals, handling equipment, intermodal rail operations, and vessel operations.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to interact effectively and professionally with the GPA staff on all levels as well as members of the shipping industry and the general public.
  • Excellent written, oral, and presentation skills required.
Experience
  • 10+ years of related work experience Required
  • 10+ years of prior management experience Required
Education
  • Required Bachelor's Degree
Licenses & Certifications
  • TWIC - Transportation Worker Identification Credential Required Upon Hire
  • Driver's License - Valid state driver's license Required Upon Hire
