We are seeking a Vice President of Global Sourcing and Supply to join our team and help drive our continued success. This role plays an important part in supporting our customers, strengthening our business, and contributing to the long-term growth of Douglas Dynamics.
The Vice President of Global Sourcing and Supply provides strategic and operational leadership for the divisional Global Sourcing and Supply (GSS) function. This role develops and executes sourcing, supplier performance, logistics, inventory, and supply chain improvement strategies that support business growth, operational performance, cost competitiveness, quality, delivery, and risk mitigation.
As a member of the Business Leadership Team (BLT), this position partners with Operations, Engineering, Finance, Quality, Sales, and enterprise GSS leadership to ensure the supply base is a strategic competitive advantage. The role is accountable for building a right-sized, resilient supplier network, driving continuous improvement and lean supply chain practices, developing talent, and ensuring ethical, compliant, and professional supplier management practices.
Strategic Leadership and Business Alignment
Lead the divisional GSS strategy and align priorities with the divisional strategic business plan, enterprise GSS initiatives, and operational performance objectives.
Participate in annual strategy development, department budgeting, capital planning, and scorecard/SD metric alignment.
Serve as an active member of the DDI GSS leadership team and align divisional goals with broader company sourcing and supply chain priorities.
Use data, business intelligence, and cross-functional input to identify risks, opportunities, trends, and performance gaps across the supply chain.
Sourcing, Category Management, and Supplier Strategy
Define the optimal supply chain size, supplier segmentation, and key performance indicators needed to support the business while reducing disruption risk.
Develop and maintain category strategies, including three-year plans that address commodity drivers, supplier capabilities, market trends, cost trends, spend performance, risk, and competitive alternatives.
Identify, evaluate, and qualify potential suppliers; assess capabilities, capacity, quality systems, cost position, delivery performance, and strategic fit.
Prepare and lead RFP/RFQ processes, pricing negotiations, cost analysis, and total-cost-of-ownership evaluations to optimize cost, quality, lead time, delivery, and service levels.
Review and approve supply agreements and stocking agreements within assigned authority levels.
Maintain positive, productive, and professional relationships with assigned and strategic suppliers.
Supplier Performance, Quality, and Continuous Improvement
Maintain supplier documentation, status tracking, performance records, and risk mitigation plans.
Partner with Supplier Excellence, Category Management, Supplier Quality, and Supplier Perfection resources to use Supplier Performance Metrics (SPM) to measure results, identify deficiencies, and implement countermeasures.
Define which suppliers should be measured through SPM and establish supplier improvement priorities at both macro and supplier-specific levels.
Lead DD GSS supplier continuous improvement, kaizen, and RISE initiatives, including process development, SOWs, templates, event planning, ROI tracking, and communication of results and best practices.
Train internal and external stakeholders on continuous improvement, lean tools, supplier excellence, and expected standards of performance.
Engage suppliers in Early Supplier Involvement (ESI) activities to support new product development, design for manufacturability, cost effectiveness, quality, and launch readiness.
Supply Chain Operations, Risk, and Logistics
Maintain an active supply chain risk analysis methodology, including documented mitigation plans for critical suppliers, commodities, capacity constraints, geopolitical or logistics risk, and continuity of supply concerns.
Coordinate and support implementation of DD lean supply chain systems, including kanban, stocking plans, VMI, pull systems, and milk-run delivery methods.
Use MRP, ERP, demand and supply data, and analytical tools to support production schedules, identify exceptions, and drive timely resolution.
Apply value analysis and value engineering (VA/VE) methods to identify cost reduction, margin improvement, waste elimination, and non-traditional savings opportunities.
Use knowledge of inventory, distribution, transportation, and financial concepts to support purchasing, logistics, and supply chain decisions.
People Leadership, Compliance, and Professional Standards
Lead, coach, develop, and hold accountable direct reports, including conducting regular performance conversations, development planning, and annual performance reviews.
Utilize and audit Standards of Work (SOWs) to support organizational objectives, ensure compliance, and leverage best practices across the company.
Represent the company ethically and professionally in all interactions with employees, suppliers, distributors, and customers.
Follow the DD Code of Conduct and report any known or suspected violations through the appropriate channels.
Follow all company policies, procedures, and safety rules; actively support safe work practices in office, manufacturing, and supplier environments.
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, industrial management, business administration, engineering, or a related field; equivalent experience may be considered.
Minimum of 10 years of progressive supply chain, sourcing, procurement, supplier management, logistics, or related experience.
Demonstrated experience leading teams, developing strategy, managing supplier performance, and influencing cross-functional stakeholders.
Knowledge of international procurement, logistics, supplier development, category management, and lean supply chain principles.
Skills and Capabilities
Strong analytical capability with the ability to collect, interpret, and act on spend, supplier quality, delivery, inventory, cost, and performance data.
Ability to evaluate moderately complex to complex business situations, exercise sound judgment, and develop practical strategies and countermeasures.
Strong negotiation, communication, facilitation, and relationship-management skills.
High level of emotional intelligence with the ability to lead through influence, manage pressure, and communicate with professionalism.
Ability to prioritize, adapt, and make sound decisions in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Licenses / Certifications
CPM, CPSM, or equivalent certification preferred.
Technology / Equipment
Experience with ERP or large enterprise software preferred.
Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and Microsoft 365 tools preferred.
