Vice President of Emergency Services

Houston, Texas

Employment Type: Full-Time, Permanent
Schedule: Monday–Friday (Executive role; extended hours as needed)

Compensation & Incentives:

  • Base Salary Range: $142,958 – $214,448

  • Target Bonus: 17.5% (up to 150% upside based on performance)

  • Sign-On Bonus: Case-by-case

  • Relocation Assistance: Case-by-case

We are seeking a highly experienced Vice President of Emergency Services to provide enterprise-level leadership for a large, high-volume emergency services portfolio. This executive role is responsible for strategic planning, operational execution, clinical quality, financial performance, and growth across adult emergency, pediatric emergency, and freestanding emergency departments.

The Vice President partners closely with nursing, medical staff, and executive leadership to drive exceptional patient outcomes, operational excellence, and long-term service line differentiation in a complex, trauma-capable environment.

Responsibilities

Strategic & Clinical Leadership

  • Lead the development and execution of emergency services strategy aligned with organizational goals

  • Drive evidence-based clinical practice, patient safety initiatives, and quality outcomes

  • Reduce clinical variation and lead performance improvement initiatives across all ED settings

  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory, accreditation, and legal standards

  • Oversee patient throughput strategies, including capacity planning, forecasting, and patient flow

Operations & Financial Performance

  • Provide executive oversight of nursing practice and emergency department operations

  • Develop and manage operating and capital budgets, including ROI analysis for growth initiatives

  • Ensure effective labor management, productivity optimization, and premium pay control

  • Lead cost containment efforts while maintaining high-quality clinical care

  • Monitor financial performance, identify trends, and implement corrective actions

People & Culture

  • Build and lead a high-performing emergency services leadership structure

  • Direct, mentor, and develop Directors, Managers, and frontline leadership

  • Foster a culture of accountability, engagement, and professional growth

  • Ensure consistent succession planning and leadership pipeline development

Growth & Market Positioning

  • Identify opportunities for service line growth, innovation, and differentiation

  • Collaborate with physicians and administrators to enhance or expand emergency services

  • Strengthen referral networks and community relationships

  • Monitor healthcare trends, reimbursement changes, and competitive dynamics to ensure strategic positioning

Qualifications

Required

  • 5+ years of recent Director-level Emergency Services leadership experience in acute care

    • Experience must include Level I or Level II trauma centers

    • Must have managed emergency departments with 80,000+ annual visits

  • Bachelor’s degree (required)

  • Master’s degree or approved advanced education plan (required)

  • BSN required

  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license (state or compact)

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification

Preferred

  • Executive experience overseeing multi-site or freestanding emergency departments

  • Proven success managing large, complex teams and budgets

  • Strong track record of service line growth and performance improvement
