Symetra has an exciting opportunity to join our Retirement Division senior leadership team as a Vice President of the Independent Broker Dealer!

About the role

The Vice President of the Independent Broker Dealer Channel is a member of the Retirement Division senior leadership team and leads efforts of growing Symetra’s presence in the Independent Broker Dealer Channel nationally.

The role reports directly to the Retirement Division SVP of Sales, Distribution and Marketing.

Success will be measured through driving sales within the Independent Broker Dealer Channel. Current tier 1 selling agreements within this channel include:

  • LPL
  • Advisor Group Network
  • Raymond James
  • Cetera
  • Commonwealth

Note: There are numerous selling agreements beyond Tier 1 firms above

The role by design will take a 'hands-on approach with respect to financial advisor and partner acquisition, expansion & retention. Success will require building and nurturing strong partnerships with key stakeholders on the Partner level such as COI’s ( center of influence) within the broker dealers themselves as well as OSJ’s and other field leadership that enable access and have influence.

This role requires a 'get it done' business-focused executive known as an innovative problem solver who delivers results with strong collaborative leadership.

What you will do

As the VP of Independent Broker Dealer Channel, you will focus on the development and execution of a comprehensive growth strategy that includes:

  • Driving business activities and coordination that results in an increase of sales and market share within the channel
  • Develop long term strategies that position the Symetra brand and its products within the channel
  • Attract, develop and retain high performing field wholesalers and staff
  • Continually assess and institute best practices that enable field wholesalers to realize month over month growth in their respective territories
  • Work directly with Relationship Management to strategize and execute on business plans in line with the distribution partners within the Independent Channel. Examples:
  • Segmentation by partners
  • Prioritize where and how resources should be spent e.g. costs associated with OSJ meetings, conferences, sponsorships and Symetra’s representation within
  • Review current and future selling agreements to ensure they are in line with current goals and success measures
  • Constantly evaluate and develop plans related to the competitive landscape i.e. how to compete and win within channel

Compensation

Base Salary: $200,000 annual base salary plus eligibility for incentive compensation

Qualifications

Who you are

  • Minimum 20 years relevant work experience in the insurance and/or financial services industry with a track record of increased responsibilities and success.
  • Minimum 7-10 years' sales and marketing leadership experience required.
  • Strong knowledge and track record of success within Independent distribution channel.
  • Demonstrated strong, current relationships within the Independent Broker Dealer channel.
  • Demonstrated success in building sales and distribution
  • Strong knowledge of registered investment products, annuity products and how financial professionals use them within client portfolios.
  • Demonstrated ability to recruit and retain top selling talent.
  • Strong leadership, communication and organizational skills.
  • Experienced public speaker; strong presentation skills.
  • Ability to drive significant sales and service initiatives.
  • Ability to develop and execute organizational strategies.
  • Experience driving Diversity, Equity & Inclusion and related corporate culture changing strategies within and beyond immediate team.
  • Undergraduate degree required, graduate degree or industry designations e.g. CFP preferred.
  • FINRA SIE or Series 7, 63 or 66, 26 or 24 and state life licenses required.

Note: Symetra is not able to have employees hold series 65 as SSI as our broker dealer is not an approved RIA
