Job Description

Job Purpose *

The Business Analyst is responsible for analysing business requirements and translating them into clear functional and solution requirements for trade finance initiatives and projects. The role works closely with business stakeholders, project teams, and technology teams to ensure solutions meet business objectives, customer needs, and regulatory requirements.

The incumbent will support multiple changes and projects concurrently, facilitate requirements gathering and analysis, produce project artefacts, assess impacts and risks, manage requirement changes, and support testing and implementation activities. The Business Analyst is expected to drive process improvements, promote operational efficiency, and collaborate with stakeholders to ensure the timely delivery of effective business solutions.

Key Responsibilities *

Understanding Requirements

  • Elicit, analyse, and document business requirements from stakeholders, technology teams, and other relevant parties.
  • Understand business objectives, priorities, processes, pain points, and regulatory requirements, translating them into clear and actionable business and functional requirements.
  • Conduct requirements analysis, impact assessments, gap analyses, and process reviews to identify solution options and recommendations.
  • Collaborate with business stakeholders, vendors, and delivery teams to define, validate, and prioritise business requirements, business rules, and operational scenarios.
  • Prepare and maintain project artefacts, including Business Requirement Documents (BRD), Functional Specification Documents (FSD), user stories, process flows, data mapping documents, and Requirements Traceability Matrices (RTM).
  • Ensure requirements are aligned with business objectives, operational needs, regulatory obligations, and the Bank's policies, standards, and governance requirements.
  • Liaise with Compliance, Risk, Legal, Operations, and other control functions to ensure adherence to regulatory and internal control requirements.
  • Facilitate requirement workshops, walkthroughs, stakeholder discussions, and sign-off sessions to achieve alignment and approval.
  • Manage requirement changes, assumptions, dependencies, risks, and traceability throughout the project lifecycle.

Perform High-Level Solutioning

  • Collaborate with business stakeholders, vendors, and technology teams to evaluate and define high-level solution options that meet business objectives and operational requirements.
  • Support the development, review, validation, and documentation of High-Level Solution (HLS) artefacts, ensuring alignment with approved business requirements and project scope.
  • Assess proposed solutions and provide recommendations based on business value, operational impact, feasibility, risks, dependencies, and constraints.
  • Work closely with technology teams, solution architects, vendors, and project teams to ensure business requirements are accurately translated into functional and solution designs.
  • Facilitate solution discussions and workshops to evaluate options, resolve requirement gaps, and obtain stakeholder agreement on the preferred solution.
  • Document business rules, process impacts, assumptions, dependencies, and key solution decisions to ensure traceability and governance throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Communicate approved solution approaches and support the handover of requirements and solution context to delivery, testing, and implementation teams.

Other Responsibilities

  • Identify opportunities for business process improvement, automation, standardisation, and operational efficiency to enhance business outcomes and customer experience.
  • Facilitate workshops, meetings, presentations, and stakeholder engagements to communicate requirements, findings, risks, issues, and recommendations.
  • Work closely with business stakeholders, vendors, delivery teams, and support teams to ensure successful implementation and adoption of solutions.
  • Support project planning and prioritisation activities by providing business analysis inputs, impact assessments, effort estimation inputs, and recommendations aligned with business objectives.
  • Support System Integration Testing (SIT), User Acceptance Testing (UAT), and implementation activities by preparing test scenarios, clarifying requirements, validating outcomes, and supporting defect triage and resolution.
  • Support data-related activities, including data mapping, data conversion requirements, reconciliation requirements, and business rule definitions to ensure data quality and integrity.
  • Ensure project deliverables comply with governance standards, regulatory requirements, documentation standards, and project delivery methodologies.
  • Support knowledge transfer, operational readiness, production implementation, and post-implementation activities to facilitate successful solution adoption.
  • Stay informed of industry trends, regulatory developments, and emerging technologies relevant to Trade Finance and Business Analysis practices.
  • Share knowledge with team members where appropriate and participate in periodic performance, development, and alignment discussions.

Job Specification *

Qualifications

(Basic Degree / Diploma etc)

Bachelor's degree in computer science, system analysis or a related study, or equivalent experience.

Professional Qualification and/or Regulatory, Licensing requirements Knowledge of business process modelling, requirements analysis, and enterprise architecture principles. Experience with modelling tools such as ARIS, Enterprise Architect, Visio, or similar tools will be an added advantage. Familiarity with architecture frameworks (e.g., Zachman or TOGAF) is desirable.

Relevant Work Experience • More than 5 years of experience as a Business Analyst, preferably within the banking and financial services industry.

  • Preferrable with practical experience in Trade Finance products and processes, including but not limited to Letters of Credit, Bank Guarantees, Documentary Collections, Open Account Trade, Supply Chain Finance, and Trade Loans.
  • Proven experience in gathering, analysing, documenting, and managing business and functional requirements for Trade Finance systems, projects, and change initiatives.
  • Experience working on large-scale business transformation, regulatory, system migration, process improvement, or digitalisation initiatives within the banking sector is an added advantage.
  • Good understanding of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC), including requirements analysis, solution design, testing, implementation, and post-production support.
  • Experience in conducting business process analysis, impact assessments, gap analysis, and solution evaluation for complex business and technology initiatives.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills with experience collaborating effectively with business users, operations teams, technology teams, vendors, and cross-functional stakeholders across multiple levels of the organisation.
  • Experience supporting System Integration Testing (SIT), User Acceptance Testing (UAT), defect triage, and implementation activities to ensure solutions meet business requirements.
  • Knowledge of banking regulations, compliance requirements, operational risk, and control considerations relevant to Trade Finance operations would be an added advantage.
  • Experience working in Agile, Waterfall, or hybrid project delivery environments with the ability to manage multiple initiatives concurrently.

  • Knowledge of system development lifecycle (SDLC), Agile, Scrum, Waterfall, and hybrid delivery methodologies.
  • Experience using business analysis techniques, modeling standards, and tools such as HP ALM, UML, JIRA, Confluence, Visio, or equivalent platforms.
  • Ability to perform impact analysis, gap analysis, root cause analysis, and business case development to support project objectives.
  • Strong appreciation of data analysis and reporting, with the ability to interpret business data and derive actionable insights.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously while working effectively under tight deadlines and changing business conditions.
  • Experience supporting user acceptance testing (UAT), requirements validation, defect triage, and solution rollout activities.
