A Day in the Life
As Vice President, Finance Operations, you will be lead an operational finance team and the strategic finance agenda for Onterris’ Stack and Emissions Air Testing business. Onterris is a global, publicly held company (NYSE: ONT). Our Testing division is a field-services business with approximately 1,000 employees across North America, delivering services that range from stack and ambient air testing to leak detection and repair through traditional and optical gas imaging.
This is a high-impact role for a finance leader who brings rigor, pace and clear judgment to complex reporting environments as our business grows. You will own the financial planning and analysis, performance optimization, ROI analysis and oversight of operational accounting, and the monthly general ledger (GL) close process. Other responsibilities include annual budgeting and modeling, pricing, operational project performance, management reporting, KPIs, long range planning, forecasting, and support M&A and margin expansion initiatives.
This position can be performed remotely, although the ideal candidate will be within driving distance of one of our major office locations in Irvine or Santa Ana, CA; Chicago, Il; Deer Park, TX; Denver, CO or Calgary, Canada Occasional travel is required within the U.S. and to Canada to meet with operational and finance teams and support acquisition activity.
The compensation range for this role is $200,000 - $250,000, in addition to an annual bonus (20-25%), commensurate with experience, skills, and geographic location.
To thrive in this leadership role, you’ll be comfortable taking ownership of the following responsibilities:
Lead the air testing financial operations team with confident, hands-on leadership, delivering day-to-day guidance and long-range financial strategy that fuels global growth
Unlock cost and profitability gains, turning margin performance into a competitive advantage
Standardize financial project management in the ERP across all geographies, improving inputs, functionality and reporting while driving smart system enhancements with key partners
Build a disciplined, repeatable forecasting engine that produces system-generated forecasts and supports regular, executive-level reviews throughout the year
Lead financial due diligence, integration and synergy delivery for acquisitions within the air testing business, and help shape a sharper, more strategic M&A roadmap
Strengthen and evolve business KPIs, diagnose variance drivers quickly and translate insights into measurable operational improvements
Deliver monthly performance narratives to senior leadership, pairing clear reporting with analysis that drives decisions at the project and divisional/country level
Develop and elevate the global air testing finance team through mentorship, delegation and high standards that build capability and momentum
Own the monthly and quarterly close with rigor, ensuring accurate revenue recognition, clean cut-offs, and GAAP-compliant accounting
Partner with senior leaders to set operational financial strategy, surface risks and opportunities, and bring data-driven recommendations that move the business forward
Lead the annual budget and quarterly forecast models, integrating backlog, pipeline and KPIs into clear submissions for FP&A alignment
Partner with leadership to strengthen fixed asset management and tracking.
Guide operational leaders in applying policies, programs and procedures with consistency, clarity and accountability
Serve as the connective tissue between Operations and Corporate Accounting and Corporate Finance, keeping teams aligned and advancing issues to resolution
Partner across Business Services, HR, IT and Legal to support compliance, governance and smart business decisions
Drive standardization and automation in accounting, reporting and financial operations to scale performance and reduce friction
Ensure internal controls are designed and operating effectively, supporting SOX compliance and strong financial governance
Champion improvements and integrations across financial and accounting systems, processes, tools and control environments as the business evolves
Act as a key point of contact for internal and external auditors, ensuring readiness, transparency and smooth execution
Your Expertise and Skills

15+ years of progressive finance or accounting experience
Public-company experience
5+ years experience in an operational finance role or in a corporate FP&A role
Experience with a services or project based business
Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting or Business Administration from an accredited university; and a CPA, CMA or MBA equivalent
Prior leadership experience, with a focus on developing talent across multiple geographies
Proven expertise with ERP systems; experience driving finance transformation and automation initiatives; Workday familiarity strongly preferred
Track record of driving margin improvement and revenue growth initiatives
Executive presence with the credibility to partner with, challenge, and influence senior leaders
Strong U.S. GAAP knowledge, including revenue recognition, inventory methodologies, expense cut-off and accruals
Leads with integrity and sets the standard for accuracy, ethics and compliance
Commits to transparency through clear communication, elevates risks, and creates confidence with stakeholders
Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving capability, excellent prioritization and organization, and the ability to manage multiple deadlines with pace and precision
Communicates with presence, commits to transparency, elevates risk early, and creates confidence with senior leadership and external stakeholders
Hands-on understanding of core operational cycles, including procure-to-pay, order-to-cash and record-to-report
Demonstrated ability to lead and contribute to enterprise-wide finance initiatives
Advanced Microsoft Office skills, including Excel, PowerPoint, Word and Outlook
Willingness to travel approximately 10%, with the U.S. and Canada
Experience leading M&A due diligence, decision support and post-close integration preferred
