Credit Solutions is a dedicated team of corporate financiers within HSBC Innovation Banking specialising in providing debt solutions to early-to-growth stage, institutionally-backed companies in the innovation economy across Greater China. The team is responsible for the entirety of the deal process, from origination, structuring, execution and ongoing monitoring.

We are currently seeking a high calibre professional to join our team as a Vice President, Credit Solutions, Innovation Banking. This individual will perform a key role for HSBC Innovation Banking, managing the extant lending book to portfolio companies, VC / PE funds, and equity warrant portfolio, providing thematic reviews and portfolio reporting on a regular basis and ensuring any deteriorating positions are flagged in a timely fashion.

Principal Responsibilities

  • Conduct in-depth monthly monitoring of the lending portfolio to evaluate the performance and financial health of portfolio companies and VC / PE funds. Present these findings to internal stakeholders within Innovation Banking and Risk
  • Undertake market analysis on VC fundraising, dealmaking and exit activity in Greater China on a quarterly basis
  • Conduct periodic thematic reviews on the portfolio, presenting conclusions to internal stakeholders
  • Manage Innovation Banking’s equity warrant portfolio from issuance to exit, including convening Valuations and Exit committees
  • Monitor the team’s financial performance, providing regular reports to management on progress to targets and other key performance indicators
  • Participate in project-based initiatives for Innovation Banking to ensure execution of lending strategies and global consistency among other regions
  • Maintain and manage data across various internal systems, ensuring the accuracy of key data for internal use
  • Support Deal Captains in the team with the origination and execution of Venture Debt and other debt financing transactions, across pitching, structuring, negotiation, credit approval and legal documentation alongside legal counsel

Requirements

  • Solid experience in banking or similar financial services sectors, preferably portfolio management roles; Deep understanding of the 3 core financial statements and how to interpret them
  • Solid corporate finance technical foundations spanning financial modelling, credit risk analysis, and legal documentation; Familiarity with LMA / APLMA legal documentation, including term sheets
  • Experience in customer facing roles, including evidence of negotiating with clients to deliver mutually satisfactory outcomes; Relevant experience covering institutionally-backed, earlier stage companies preferred
  • Sound interpersonal, negotiation and communication skills, including presenting to groups; Keen interest in acquiring new relevant knowledge and innovating for growth
  • Existing Type 1 and Type 4 SFC licenses beneficial; Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint
  • Language skills in spoken and written Mandarin is essential, Cantonese useful; Excellent spoken and written English also mandatory.
