Global Risk and Compliance
Risk and Compliance is a global function that brings together all aspects of regulatory and financial crime risk management. Acting as risk stewards, and incorporating a range of specialist teams, we work together with the business and leverage advanced technology to help HSBC navigate a complex regulatory landscape and embed a sustainable approach to compliance risk management that supports safe growth and ensures fair outcomes for clients. Compliance aspires to continuously raise the bar and set leading standards across the industry to help HSBC safeguard its customers and the communities within which it operates.
We are currently seeking an experienced professional to join our team.
In this role, you will:
Impact on the Business / Function
• Credit underwriting - Implement Approval team's strategic vision and forward looking approach, achieve strong asset quality across customer segments and ensure well balanced Risk Reward / Shareholder Value aligned to HBCN's risk appetite.
• Work with Businesses to identify early warning signals and manage Worry/Watch/Monitor accounts. Manage stressed accounts and minimize impairment provisions on B&D account.
• Identify emerging risks in the portfolio, geography or industry sectors through portfolio management strategies and initiate mitigation strategies.
• Where needed, contribute to the development and achievement of HBCN's Country Strategic Plan(CSP).
• Adopt and implement Group / Regional guidelines.
Customers / Stakeholders
• Ensuring Businesses understand, accept and implement wholesale credit policies and incorporate risk issues as integral to Business activities.
• Ensure quality control of the credit approval process and turn around credit applications in line with Service Level Agreement.
• Maintain a professional relationship with Businesses, Risk function of other Group offices, regulators, auditors, and professionals.
Leadership & Teamwork
• Effectively communicate with HBCN Risk management and Global Businesses to support sustainable business growth and business / risk management initiatives.
• Advise on appropriate investment towards building team morale as well as professional training on an ongoing basis, for Risk managers as well as the wider risk team.
• Demonstrate HSBC Core Values.
• Coach and mentor junior staff.
Operational Effectiveness & Control
• Maintain HSBC's internal control standards, implement and observe Group Compliance Policy and maintain awareness of operational risk and minimize the likelihood of any lapses occurring.
• Ensure compliance with internal and external regulatory requirement and provide advice to regulators and credit matters.
• Encourage efficient and streamlined credit processes, including providing guidance & contribution to risk rating frameworks / scorecards built in conjunction with Global / Regional / other site Risk functions.
• Improve risk processes with the objective to reduce bureaucracy without compromising on controls.
• Credit systems – Contribute to implementation / upgrade / maintenance where necessary.
• Accurate and complete documentation and reliable quality control procedures for critical methodologies and processes to ensure operational control.
To be successful in the role, you should meet the following requirements:
Qualifications
Typically qualifications would include an undergraduate or post-graduate degree in Business Administration, Finance or a related field.
Experience
• Exposure to demanding operational environments to gain insight into effective risk management applications.
• Working across all levels of the organization to understand cross-functional linkages and interdependencies, as well as the implications of credit and other risks at both a strategic level and at the Global Business level.
• Good understanding of HSBC overall business dynamics.
• Has developed a relatively high level of professional competence which helps to determine risk based solutions.
Skills
• Credit risk experience in the relevant business segments.
• Understand the global and regional strategies of the Group and collaborates with Businesses to execute the strategies.
• Expertise in Group and sectoral developments in Risk Management.
• Ability to form effective relationships at the senior level in the organization.
• Communication and interpersonal skills, including the capacity to articulate the case for risk management in the language of business.
• Ability to lead changes, contributing to joining up the function regionally.
• Understand and interpret complex business requirements.
• Proven ability to prioritize competing demands.
• Demonstrated ability to assess risk trends, both internally and externally.
• High levels maturity, resilience, sharp negotiation and communication skills.
• Established financial and accounting acumen.
• Proficiency/Fluency in English/Putonghua a distinct advantage.
