MUFG Securities is seeking for a Vice President Control Assurance Lead to join their dynamic team in Hong Kong. This position is designed for someone who thrives in a collaborative environment and is passionate about upholding the highest standards of regulatory and legal compliance. As the driving force behind the control assurance function, you will play a crucial part in shaping the organisation’s risk culture, ensuring operational resilience, and providing independent oversight across all business lines. The role offers exposure to senior management, opportunities to influence strategic decision-making, and the chance to lead a specialist team dedicated to maintaining robust controls.

  • Take ownership of a high-profile control assurance function with direct influence over firm-wide risk management and compliance strategies, working closely with senior leaders across multiple departments.

  • Enjoy a supportive and inclusive workplace that values your expertise, encourages knowledge sharing, and provides ongoing training opportunities to help you grow both personally and professionally.

  • Benefit from flexible working arrangements that promote work-life balance while allowing you to deliver impactful results in a dynamic and evolving regulatory landscape.

What you'll do:

As Vice President, Control Assurance Lead, you will be entrusted with overseeing the integrity of the organisation’s internal controls framework. Your day-to-day responsibilities will involve collaborating with stakeholders across business lines to ensure that all controls are not only well-designed but also operating effectively in line with regulatory expectations. You will guide your team through complex reviews and testing exercises while fostering an environment where continuous improvement is encouraged. By delivering insightful thematic assessments and presenting your findings at senior governance forums, you will directly contribute to strengthening operational resilience. Your ability to provide constructive challenge on remediation efforts will be key in driving sustainable improvements across the firm. Success in this role requires a blend of technical expertise, interpersonal skills, confidence to challenge the norms and a genuine commitment to nurturing a culture where risk awareness is embedded at every level.

  • Provide independent oversight and challenge of control quality, evidence standards, management information, and remediation effectiveness across all business units.

  • Lead the second line control assurance function by developing frameworks that ensure regulatory and legal obligations are met through effective design and operation of controls.

  • Drive the enhancement of risk-based control assurance processes by embedding a strong control mindset throughout the organisation’s activities and change initiatives.

  • Act as a credible senior challenger to business, operations, and technology management teams regarding control quality, evidence requirements, and remediation outcomes.

  • Develop and inspire a specialist controls team responsible for executing independent reviews, testing programmes, management information generation, and comprehensive reporting.

  • Represent the control assurance function at senior governance forums, escalating material control weaknesses where necessary to ensure transparency and accountability.

  • Deliver clear, evidence-based assurance opinions to senior management committees to support informed decision-making at the highest levels.

  • Lead thematic reviews across functions with a primary focus on regulatory and legal obligations; analyse root causes of issues to provide actionable insights rather than isolated findings.

  • Design and oversee independent control testing programmes that assess adequacy of design, operating effectiveness, sustainability, repeatability, and relevance of management information.

  • Provide robust challenge over remediation plans arising from incidents or audit findings; assess whether actions address true root causes and escalate concerns if progress is insufficient.

What you bring:

To excel as Vice President, Control Assurance Lead you will bring substantial experience from senior roles within second line or independent assurance functions in financial services. Your deep familiarity with Asian regulatory regimes ensures you can interpret requirements accurately while guiding others towards compliance. You possess advanced analytical abilities that enable you to uncover patterns behind control weaknesses—translating these into actionable recommendations for improvement. Your interpersonal skills allow you to engage constructively with department heads and senior leaders alike; you are adept at delivering challenging messages diplomatically yet persuasively. A natural collaborator who values teamwork over hierarchy, you foster trust within your team by encouraging open communication and shared learning. Your calm demeanour helps maintain focus during periods of change or uncertainty while your commitment to measurable outcomes ensures that every initiative delivers tangible value.

  • Extensive experience at Vice President level (or equivalent) within a second line or independent assurance capacity in financial services environments.

  • Comprehensive understanding of regulatory frameworks relevant to securities or investment banking businesses in Asia—particularly SFC, MAS, ASIC, and SEBI regulations—and their practical application.

  • Proven track record in leading control assurance functions including independent testing programmes and thematic reviews focused on operational resilience.

  • Demonstrated ability to constructively challenge senior stakeholders on matters relating to control effectiveness, evidence standards, risk management practices, and remediation outcomes.

  • Experience managing teams responsible for conducting detailed control reviews, generating management information reports, and supporting governance processes.

  • Strong analytical skills with an aptitude for identifying root causes of issues through thematic analysis rather than focusing solely on isolated failures.

  • Desirable: Experience covering operations risk, technology risk or outsourcing risk within large financial institutions; prior engagement with regulators or audit functions (internal/external).

  • Relevant professional qualifications such as CA, CPA, ACA, CIA or equivalent are highly regarded but not essential for success in this role.

  • Ability to drive cultural change by promoting best practices in risk awareness while inspiring others through supportive leadership.

  • Calmness under pressure combined with pragmatic judgement when navigating complex challenges or competing priorities.
