Job Description

The Vice President, Clinic Operations provides executive leadership for the health system's ambulatory and physician practice operations. This position develops and executes strategies that improve access, quality, physician alignment, patient experience, operational effectiveness, and financial performance across the clinic enterprise. The Vice President partners with executive leadership, physicians, and operational leaders to ensure clinic operations function as an integrated, high-performing network that advances the mission, vision, and strategic objectives of Ephraim McDowell Health. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Provides executive leadership for the health system's clinic operations and establishes strategic priorities that support organizational goals.
2. Oversees the operational performance of physician practices and other assigned ambulatory services.
3. Provides executive oversight of the Care Navigation program and promotes coordinated care for rising-risk and high-risk patient populations.
4. Establishes standardized operational workflows and best practices that improve efficiency, patient experience, and quality across the clinic enterprise.
5. Identifies operational, geographic, and service line gaps within the physician network and develops strategies to strengthen network integrity and improve patient access.
6. Collaborates with the Clinically Integrated Network (CIN) to improve care coordination, population health initiatives, transitions of care, and value-based care performance.
7. Leads strategic initiatives involving primary care, specialty care, referral management, post-acute care coordination, customer service, and ambulatory operations.
8. Partners with physicians and clinic leadership to improve quality outcomes, operational performance, patient satisfaction, and appropriate utilization of healthcare resources.
9. Establishes staffing strategies and operational performance expectations that balance quality patient care with fiscal responsibility.
10. Develops, monitors, and reports operational, financial, productivity, quality, and patient satisfaction metrics to executive leadership.
11. Creates operational tools, standardized processes, and performance improvement initiatives that optimize clinic effectiveness.
12. Promotes a culture of collaboration and "systemness" across physician practices to ensure a seamless patient experience throughout the health system.
13. Participates in physician compensation reviews, productivity analysis, contract evaluations, and Fair Market Value (FMV) assessments.
14. Supports physician recruitment efforts, practice expansion initiatives, new clinic development, and operational onboarding of providers.
15. Participates in payer negotiations, managed care initiatives, and contracting activities as assigned.
16. Partners with Finance, Revenue Cycle, Human Resources, Information Technology, Quality, and other organizational leaders to achieve strategic objectives.
17. Provides leadership, coaching, mentoring, and performance management for assigned leaders while fostering accountability, engagement, and professional development.
18. Represents Clinic Operations on executive committees, organizational initiatives, and strategic planning activities.
19. Ensures compliance with all applicable federal, state, accreditation, and organizational regulations, policies, and standards.
20. Performs other duties as assigned.

WORKING CONDITIONS, HAZARDS AND PHYSICAL EFFORT:

This position primarily functions in an office and healthcare environment with regular travel between clinic locations and other organizational facilities. Work requires prolonged periods of sitting, standing, walking, computer use, and participation in meetings. Occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds may be required. The position may involve exposure to healthcare environments where infectious diseases are present and requires adherence to all organizational safety and infection prevention standards. Evening or weekend work may occasionally be necessary to meet operational or organizational needs.

This position maintains frequent interaction with executive leadership, physicians, advanced practice providers, leaders, associates, patients, families, community partners, managed care organizations, vendors, consultants, and other internal and external stakeholders.

EQUIPMENT USED/SPECIAL SKILLS REQUIRED:

This position utilizes personal computers, Google Workspace applications, electronic health record (EHR) systems, practice management systems, financial reporting and analytics software, telecommunication and videoconferencing platforms, and other standard office equipment. The role requires demonstrated executive leadership and organizational management skills, strategic planning and execution, physician relationship management, financial analysis and budget oversight, operational performance improvement, population health and care coordination, change management, data analysis and interpretation, contract negotiation, conflict resolution, and exceptional written, verbal, presentation, and facilitation skills. The incumbent must possess the ability to lead complex organizational initiatives, build collaborative relationships, and effectively influence stakeholders across all levels of the organization.

Qualifications

Minimum of ten (10) years of progressively responsible leadership experience in healthcare operations, physician practice management, ambulatory services, or a related healthcare environment, including significant executive leadership experience. Experience leading multiple physician practices, managing operational and financial performance, and partnering with physicians and executive leadership is required.
