Recovery Nurse – Endoscopy, Vascular, Neuro-Interventional & Interventional Radiology

Location:Sentara Norfolk General Hospital – Vascular & Interventional Center (VIC)
Department:Vascular & Interventional Center (VIC)
Reports To:VIC Prep/Recovery Supervisor

The Recovery Nurse (RN) in the Vascular & Interventional Center (VIC) provides specialized pre- and post-procedural nursing care for patients undergoing Endoscopy, Pulmonary, Vascular, Neuro-Interventional, and Interventional Radiology procedures. This role supports a fast-paced, high-acuity procedural environment caring for complex patients requiring moderate sedation, anesthesia support, and advanced monitoring.

The Recovery RN is responsible for patient assessment, procedural preparation, recovery monitoring, patient education, and safe discharge planning while collaborating closely with physicians, APPs, anesthesia, and procedural teams to ensure safe, efficient, patient-centered care.

Schedule

  • Rotating shifts within unit operating hours: Monday–Friday, 0800–2100

  • (4) 9 hour shifts with (1-2) closing shift permonth.

  • Weekend call rotation: One weekend every 7–8 weeks (0730–1500)

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform comprehensive post-procedure nursing assessments, including neurological, vascular, sedation, and pain assessments.

  • Recover and monitor patients following procedures involving moderate sedation or anesthesia.

  • Identify and respond to complications including bleeding, respiratory compromise, neurological changes, and hemodynamic instability.

  • Administer medications and interventions as ordered.

  • Provide patient and family education regarding procedures, recovery expectations, medications, and discharge instructions.

  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to support safe patient care and efficient procedural flow.

  • Accurately document assessments, interventions, and patient outcomes in EPIC.

  • Participate in emergency response situations and maintain ACLS competency.

  • Support departmental quality, safety, and patient experience initiatives while maintaining compliance with Sentara policies and infection prevention standards.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Current Virginia RN license

  • BLS and ACLS certifications

    Preferred:

    • BSN

    • Experience in Interventional Radiology, Endoscopy, Neuro-Interventional, or procedural recovery

    • EPIC proficiency and moderate sedation recovery experience
