Job Description

As a Vibration Test Engineer, you will join our engineering team in Portsmouth to support our activities within the space and environmental testing sector.

You will work within an environmental test laboratory, carrying out hands-on vibration and shock testing on space and commercial hardware. You will be responsible for setting up and performing tests using vibration systems and mechanical shock rigs, accurately recording and processing test data, and supporting both internal engineering teams and external customers.

This role is ideal for an experienced test engineer with a strong practical background in laboratory-based vibration and shock testing who is comfortable taking ownership of testing activities from preparation through to reporting.

Key Responsibilities:

• Perform hands-on vibration and shock testing on space and commercial hardware using electromagnetic vibration systems and mechanical shock rigs
• Set up and execute a range of sine, random and classical shock tests in accordance with defined test requirements
• Complete test logs and ensure all measurement and test data is accurately captured and recorded
• Post-process test data and produce clear and accurate technical test reports
• Review test procedures and provide technical feedback to ensure testing can be performed effectively and safely
• Manage the calibration of test equipment and support maintenance of associated laboratory and test facilities
• Work closely with internal engineering teams and external customers to provide a professional testing service
• Support quotations, test scheduling and cost estimation based on customer test specifications
• Contribute to the continuous development of test facilities to improve efficiency and technical capability

Qualifications

Required Skills:

• Practical, hands-on vibration testing experience within a laboratory or environmental test environment
• Experience physically setting up and performing vibration and shock tests using vibration systems and mechanical shock rigs
• Practical experience executing sine, random and classical shock test types
• Experience accurately recording, processing and reporting vibration and shock test data
• Understanding of relevant national and international testing standards and safe laboratory testing practices
• Experience reviewing and interpreting test procedures, specifications and technical requirements
• Strong customer-facing communication skills with the ability to present technical information confidently
• Accurate and methodical approach to practical testing activities

Required Qualifications:

• A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, or equivalent military experience.
• Alternatively, an Engineering Apprenticeship or HNC combined with significant relevant hands-on vibration testing experience
• Demonstrable experience conducting vibration and shock testing within a laboratory-based engineering environment

Desirable Skills:

• Experience using M+P International vibration control software
• Previous experience testing space, aerospace or other complex engineering hardware
• Experience managing calibration activities for vibration and environmental test equipment
• Experience supporting maintenance and continuous improvement of environmental test facilities
• Experience preparing quotations, estimating test costs or supporting laboratory scheduling activities
• Flexibility to support weekend or shift working when required
