Animal Hospital at Lakewood Ranch is seeking an experienced Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT) or highly skilled Veterinary Technician to join our well-established, full-service general practice in Bradenton, Florida—just minutes from the beaches of Sarasota.

This is not a routine GP technician role.

This is a hands-on clinical position with exposure to:
  • Advanced surgery and anesthesia
  • Exotic animal medicine (small mammals and exotics)
  • Diagnostic imaging and laboratory work
  • High-quality preventative and wellness care
  • Urgent and same-day medical cases
Ideal for technicians who want to stay sharp, learn continuously, and expand their skillset across multiple species.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform patient assessments and monitor clinical status
  • Administer medications, vaccines, and treatments
  • Provide hands-on nursing care throughout hospitalization and recovery
  • Respond confidently to urgent patient needs
  • Assist in outpatient and inpatient care workflows
  • Prepare patients and surgical suites using sterile technique
  • Assist in surgical procedures and patient positioning
  • Perform anesthesia induction, monitoring, and recovery care
  • Monitor vitals including ECG, SpO₂, blood pressure, and temperature
  • Support safe and efficient post-operative recovery
  • Perform in-house diagnostics (bloodwork, urinalysis, cytology)
  • Assist with radiographs and imaging procedures
  • Collect and process diagnostic samples
  • Communicate findings with the medical team
  • Assist with handling and restraint of small mammals and exotic species
  • Support species-specific care and treatment plans
  • Learn and apply specialized handling techniques for non-traditional patients
  • Educate clients on treatment plans, medications, and preventive care
  • Provide clear discharge instructions and at-home care guidance
  • Build strong client relationships through compassionate communication
  • Maintain accurate medical records in EMR systems
  • Ensure cleanliness, organization, and compliance standards
  • Assist with inventory and supply management
  • Support smooth daily hospital flow

What We're Looking For

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and move throughout shifts
  • Ability to lift and restrain animals up to 50 lbs
  • Manual dexterity for clinical and surgical tasks
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced clinical setting with competing priorities
  • Comfortable working in a veterinary environment with:
  1. Animal dander and allergens
  2. Cleaning agents and disinfectants
  3. Medical supplies and pharmaceuticals
  • 1+ year of veterinary technician experience required
  • Strong experience in patient care, anesthesia, and surgery support
  • Experience in general practice or high-quality clinical environments
  • Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT) or Associate’s degree in Veterinary Technology with the ability to sit for the VTNE.
  • Exotic animal experience (or strong interest in learning)
  • Surgery and anesthesia experience highly valued
  • Interest in long-term growth and leadership development

Compensation & Sign-On Bonus

  • Starting at $25/hour+ based on experience for Certified Veterinary Technicians (CVT)
