Broad Overview

The Veterinary Technician serves as the primary veterinary support resource to the Veterinary Medicine Supervisor at the SERB Pharmaceuticals' Salt Lake City facility. This position is responsible for providing animal care, health monitoring, veterinary technical support, husbandry support when needed, in the support for animals involved in the production of CroFab®.

Working in a pharmaceutical environment that houses venomous snakes, the Veterinary Technician plays a critical role in maintaining animal health and welfare while ensuring adherence to safety, operational, and regulatory requirements.

As a Veterinary Technician, your responsibilities will include:

Animal Health & Veterinary Care

  • Conduct daily health observations and assessments.
  • Administer medications, vaccines, and prescribed treatments.
  • Collect and process diagnostic samples.
  • Assist the Veterinary Medicine Supervisor with examinations and procedures.
  • Monitor animal health records and report abnormalities promptly.

Animal Husbandry

  • Perform husbandry tasks to support team operations when needed.
  • Participate in feeding, watering, sanitation, and environmental monitoring when needed.
  • Ensure animal housing meets welfare and operational standards.
  • Monitor environmental parameters and enrichment programs.
  • Participate in facility cleaning and maintenance as needed.

Regulatory Compliance

  • Maintain accurate medical and husbandry records.
  • Support compliance with animal welfare, safety, and company requirements.
  • Participate in inspections, audits, and documentation activities.

Safety

  • Follow all protocols for working in a facility housing venomous snakes.
  • Utilize PPE and safety equipment appropriately.
  • Participate in emergency response procedures related to animal care operations.
  • Ensuring that all interactions and engagements are carried out in accordance with Company Values.
  • Carry out other reasonable tasks as required by the Line Manager.

To be successful in this role, you should demonstrate:

  • AVMA Certified:
    • Associate degree in Veterinary Technology from an AVMA-accredited Veterinary Technology program required.
  • Current RVT, CVT, or LVT credential, or ability to obtain Utah licensure within an established timeframe. (Company can reimburse for annual renewal to retain license under job requirement)
  • Minimum of 2 years of veterinary technician experience in a clinical, research, zoological, agricultural, exotic animal, or related animal care setting.
  • Experience administering medications, treatments, and vaccines and supporting veterinary examinations and procedures.
  • Experience collecting, handling, and processing biological samples, including blood and other diagnostic specimens.
  • Working knowledge of animal health assessment, husbandry practices, disease recognition, animal welfare standards, and medical recordkeeping.
  • Ability to identify changes in animal health, behavior, or welfare and communicate concerns promptly and effectively.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with the Veterinary Medicine Supervisor in a highly specialized animal care environment.
  • Preferred experience working with reptiles, venomous species, exotic animals, large animals, or animals maintained in a pharmaceutical, biotechnology, research, or regulated setting.
  • Ability to safely work in an environment that houses venomous snakes while adhering to established safety, animal welfare, and regulatory compliance requirements.
  • Ability to frequently stand, walk, bend, lift, and carry up to 50 pounds and work indoors and outdoors in varying environmental conditions.
