Veterinary Surgeon – Progression opportunity for experienced vet. Salary up to £80,000
How does working in a practice where the whole team are passionate about preventative health care sound to you? What if you could be part of this team with the support of a multi-certificate holder and published veterinary surgeon behind you?
At Torquay Vets4Pets, we believe that you can have it all. From a fulfilling career with supportive colleagues, through to an idyllic hometown in which you can secure the best possible quality of life. Everything is possible when you join us; take our practice owner for example. AD came to Devon 16 years ago, and he loved it so much that he never left. Instead, he chose to open this successful practice in the heart of the community and since then we have gone from strength to strength. And now we would like you to join us.
We currently have an exciting opportunity for a talented veterinary surgeon to join our team. This role is the perfect steppingstone for an experienced vet to progress into a leadership role with both Clinical Director and Ownership opportunities available, if desired. Although experience is preferred, we prioritise a good fit for the team and all candidates, regardless of experience, are invited to apply.
As a 100% small animal GP accredited practice, we are at the heart of community life. We take great pride in developing trusted relationships with our clients, and we truly believe in working with our clients to provide the best standard of care for their animals.
You’ll be joining a team made up of 4 vets, who have 23years and 13 years and 3 years of experience, 3 nurses, 1 student nurse, 2 veterinary care assistants, 3 client care advisors and 1 practice manager. AD’s certificate in small animal medicine and status as an RCVS recognised advanced practitioner in small animal surgery puts us in a unique position to offer a varied case load and learning experience. In addition, AD also used to lecture in an academic hospital and still enjoys teaching and mentoring and can teach a wide clinical skill set.
This is a unique opportunity to join a locally owned practice that benefits from a real sense of camaraderie. We’re a close-knit, collaborative team with a great sense of humour and complete clinical freedom. To make the most of this role, you will therefore have experience of working in practice, and you will have good medical and surgical skills. With many of the team having been with the practice for a long time and having progressed in their careers, and with AD’s commitment to your development and being keen to support anyone else that is interested in research, there’s a lot of scope and potential in joining our practice in Torquay.
Our days are well structured with an emphasis on quality over quantity, so we average about 12 consults per vet per day with a reasonable procedural load. As well as time to catch up on breaks and admin time being factored into the day, our non-clinical colleagues also join our consults to support us with some of the admin!
Ideally this is a full-time role, however we’d be happy to discuss other alternatives with you for you to achieve a good balance between home and work. We currently work 2 different shifts from either 8:30 – 16:30 or 11:00 – 19:30, with only one late shift a week and just 1 in 4 weekends, with time off in lieu for the hours worked.
Although 8am - 7pm are considered the paid work hours at the weekend, you’ll only need to be in the practice from 08:30 – 14:00 on Saturday, only coming in in addition to this if there are emergency callouts.
And while the job itself offers an exceptional level of career satisfaction; it is possibly the location of this practice that is one of the main selling points. Torquay is a scenic coastal town with a strong infrastructure. As part of the English Riviera, it has something for everyone to enjoy ranging from water sport activities to the theatre, café and restaurant culture, as well as having several reputable schools. Torquay is also well connected with the local train station (GWR) nearby and just a short drive from the M5 and Exeter Airport as well as Plymouth ferry port.
By joining us you can also expect to receive a great remuneration package including:
We want our colleagues to be as diverse as our clients. Our teams are inclusive and celebrate difference so if you meet our role requirements, we’d love to hear from you.
