Job Description

Veterinary Surgeon – interest in mentoring – Salary up to £70,000

Locally owned since 2020, we first opened in 2014 and have retained the same team since opening our doors so if you are looking to join a small, friendly practice with a great reputation in the local area, we have the role for you here at Yeovil Vets for Pets.

About us

The practice is going from strength to strength and is an extremely successful business as well as providing a first-class service to our loyal client base, having been RCVS accredited ‘Outstanding’ for Client Care and Inpatient Services.

The practice itself is based in a stand-alone building on a busy retail park with ample parking and popular amenities nearby. We’re also only a 5-minute walk to the train station, close to the town centre a short journey away and just 1 hour away from thriving tourist destinations such as Exeter, Bath and the coast!

The team

You’ll be joining practice owner Claire, a multi certificate holder, as well as working alongside an experienced vet 20 years qualified and with a passion for surgery, our new graduate vet and our wonderful team of nurses, VCA and Client Care Advisors.

Our culture and the role

Claire is a big supporter of having a great life/work balance, understanding the importance of wellbeing, and knowing that is what’s needed for the team to provide the care they do. That means that although full time ideally, we can also consider more flexible hours for this position.

Our days are well organised and include lots of team catch ups factored into the day as well as 20-minute consults as standard, and the practice also closes at 6pm several days a week.

There are no OOH and the weekend rota includes just 1 in 3 Saturday mornings.

About you

Due to the nature of this role, we are looking for an experienced vet with a broad range of GP skills. Confident in all aspects of everyday small animal medicine and surgery, we’re also looking for a vet skilled in building strong relationships with patients and clients and who enjoys working in a team.

If you have a passion for mentoring and are interested in becoming a Vet GDP Advisor, that would also be a benefit as we expand the team and take on new graduate vets.

The benefits

  • Salary up to £70,000, commensurate with experience
  • £1000 relocation allowance (direct applicants only)
  • 5.6 weeks holiday plus bank holidays, (increasing after 2 years’ service
  • Private Health Care
  • Life Assurance 4 x Annual Salary
  • Contributory Pension Scheme
  • Paid memberships (RCVS, BVA, VDS)
  • Dedicated CPD allowance
  • Funding and support towards Certificates available
  • Career progression
  • No OOH
  • Relocation allowance
  • Fully funded Sponsorship/Visa
  • Cycle to work scheme

About Pets at Home

Since 1991, when we were a wholesaler with a team of just 15, we’ve been focused on getting better every day. By putting pets before profit, working as a team and taking pride in everything we do, we’ve grown into a 451 store network with more than 8,913 colleagues working in our Stores, Grooming Salons, Distribution Centres and Support Office.

We are the UK’s leading pet specialist, providing pet owners with all their product needs, as well as our Vets for Pets practices and Grooming salons. We support our colleagues to work with pride and passion, to bring honesty and integrity to work every day, and to do it all with a sense of fun and fearlessness. We never shy away from having the important conversations and doing what we say we’ll do.

Our values and behaviours are practiced daily across the business and are what really makes us an enjoyable, exciting place to work. We're always striving to develop and reward our colleagues with an extensive in-house series of training programmes, wellbeing initiatives and a comprehensive benefits package. In 2018 we were delighted to be voted top 5 in the Great Place to Work UK’s Large category.

Our colleagues are central to the success of the business and are fully trained in pet care and dedicated to animal welfare. Pets are central to everything that we do and 93% of colleagues have their own pets too!
