Catterick Garrison Vets for Pets have a fantastic opportunity for a veterinary surgeon to join their close-knit, caring and supportive team. A team that is understanding, flexible to your commitments and provides excellent development prospects.
We are a team of three vets, two RVNs, two SVNs, VCA and experienced reception team led by our JVP Jo, who has 27 years of experience in both mixed and small animal practice and has interests in cardiology and ultrasonography. Many of our team members have been with us for several years creating a friendly, caring, supportive atmosphere. We are proud of the close ties we have to the community and welcome a diverse client base including many highly respected members of the armed forces, their families and locals.
As an established growing practice, we are lucky to see a variety of cases, the majority of which can be worked up in house. This is both due to the wealth of experience in our team and through welcoming a visiting orthopaedic surgeon when needed. We have the caseload to support certification and are open to any clinical interests you may have.
Ideally, we are looking for someone to work 2-3 days a week and to be part of our Saturday rota (1:4), but we are open to discussing full time hours. Some sole charge will be required so you will need to be confident with this. Our day to day consists of consults and surgery and our rota is flexible to cater to our team’s life commitments. Our diary is arranged so that our vets have the time, and get the continuity they need, to work-up cases from start to finish to the high standard we pride ourselves on. We are open Monday – Friday 9am to 6pm, and Saturday 9am – 4pm with consults finishing in plenty of time to make sure our team leave on time. We are closed on a Sunday and no OOHs will be required.
We are a growing practice, and whilst we want our team to enjoy a relaxed, caring work environment and have a work-life balance with the flexibility that suits them as individuals, we are also ambitious in striving to always do the best for our patients, providing a professional service and continuing to grow and develop. We are looking for our new team member to share in this motivation, commitment to care and forward-thinking attitude.
Our spacious ands newly refurbished in-store, single site practice is based in Catterick Garrison on Princes Gate Retail Park, which has most of the big-name shops, supermarkets, a cinema, hotel and plenty of coffee shops and restaurants. Directly behind the practice is Catterick Leisure Centre, an all-round sports complex that caters for families with three pools, a well-equipped gym and courts. We are also located a stone’s throw away from the beautiful Yorkshire Dales towns of Richmond and Bedale and, being just four miles off the A1, we have great transport links too.
In return for your commitment, we will provide the support you need to develop and an excellent benefits package including:

Since 1991, when we were a wholesaler with a team of just 15, we’ve been focused on getting better every day. By putting pets before profit, working as a team and taking pride in everything we do, we’ve grown into a 451 store network with more than 8,913 colleagues working in our Stores, Grooming Salons, Distribution Centres and Support Office.
We are the UK’s leading pet specialist, providing pet owners with all their product needs, as well as our Vets for Pets practices and Grooming salons. We support our colleagues to work with pride and passion, to bring honesty and integrity to work every day, and to do it all with a sense of fun and fearlessness. We never shy away from having the important conversations and doing what we say we’ll do.
Our values and behaviours are practiced daily across the business and are what really makes us an enjoyable, exciting place to work. We're always striving to develop and reward our colleagues with an extensive in-house series of training programmes, wellbeing initiatives and a comprehensive benefits package. In 2018 we were delighted to be voted top 5 in the Great Place to Work UK’s Large category.
Our colleagues are central to the success of the business and are fully trained in pet care and dedicated to animal welfare. Pets are central to everything that we do and 93% of colleagues have their own pets too!
