Our amazing Small Animal veterinary practice is now offering a fantastic opportunity for a new Veterinary Surgeon to join our Sheffield Birley Moor team.
About Us
The practice is on the outskirts of the vibrant, cultural centre of Sheffield as well as being within easy reach of beautiful countryside of the Peak District National Park. There are also easy transport links to the rest of the UK and beyond, given our central location - via road, rail, plane and even using our extensive tram network. You can be in London in under two hours by train!
Over the last 14 years, we have worked hard to build up a loyal client base, and are looking for a positive, enthusiastic vet to work alongside our close and friendly team. We are a first opinion, RCVS accredited practice, with 5 experienced vets, 4 RVNs, Practice Manager, Head Receptionist and 5 Client Care Advisors. We offer an appointment only service for both vets and nurses, with 15–30-minute appointments, allowing plenty of time for the more complicated cases. We also try to fit in regular tea breaks together whenever possible, such that cake and biscuits are never too far away!
The practice turns 15 this year and we’re marking the occasion with an exciting rebrand in May/June to celebrate this milestone.
Our bright, spacious surgery is purpose built to industry leading standards and has state of the art equipment including a dedicated operating theatre, separate cat and dog wards, new Idexx in-house laboratory kit including Sedivue urine analyser, Doppler ultrasound, digital x-ray, dentistry facilities and new ultrasound machine.
We offer a supportive working environment together with career development opportunities and an excellent package that includes a competitive salary of £40,000 - £50,000 (dependent on experience & FTE), contributory pension, paid professional subscriptions (VDS / RCVS / BVA) and exclusive company discounts and rewards - including 20% off at Pets at Home. We have a generous CPD allowance, and we actively encourage the opportunity to fund and support anyone who's keen to pursue a certificate.
What we can offer you
For full-time hours, you will work a 4-day week with the same full weekday off each week, plus a 1 in 4 Saturday only rota (8:30am – 4:30pm), and no OOH or in-patient responsibilities at all. We would however also happily welcome part-time applicants wanting less hours per week, as many of our staff already work very happily in this way. We even make sure no-one works on their birthday, in addition to your normal holiday allowance!
So, if you are looking for a great work-life balance, and to work in a fun and supportive atmosphere, please do not hesitate to get in touch. We can let you know more about the position we can offer as well as work out how we can help make your next forward career move together.

By putting pets before profit, working as a team and taking pride in everything we do, we’ve grown into a 451 store network with more than 8,913 colleagues working in our Stores, Grooming Salons, Distribution Centres and Support Office.
We are the UK’s leading pet specialist, providing pet owners with all their product needs, as well as our Vets for Pets practices and Grooming salons. We support our colleagues to work with pride and passion, to bring honesty and integrity to work every day, and to do it all with a sense of fun and fearlessness. We never shy away from having the important conversations and doing what we say we’ll do.
Our values and behaviours are practiced daily across the business and are what really makes us an enjoyable, exciting place to work. We're always striving to develop and reward our colleagues with an extensive in-house series of training programmes, wellbeing initiatives and a comprehensive benefits package. In 2018 we were delighted to be voted top 5 in the Great Place to Work UK’s Large category.
Our colleagues are central to the success of the business and are fully trained in pet care and dedicated to animal welfare. Pets are central to everything that we do and 93% of colleagues have their own pets too!
