We are pleased to invite applications for a three-year fixed-term Medicine Residency at Southern Counties Veterinary Specialists, commencing July 2026. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated veterinarian to develop advanced expertise in internal medicine within a highly respected, specialist-led referral hospital.
The successful candidate will work closely with a collaborative team of boarded Medicine Specialists, Residents, and an experienced, dedicated nursing team in a large multidisciplinary environment renowned for clinical excellence and high standards of patient care.
About Us Southern Counties Veterinary Specialists is a referral-only hospital located in the beautiful New Forest. Our specialist services include: *Anaesthesia *Cardiology *Dermatology *Internal Medicine *Neurology *Soft Tissue and Orthopaedic Surgery *Ophthalmology *Diagnostic Imaging
We also offer comprehensive rehabilitation services, including physiotherapy and an underwater treadmill, supporting optimal patient outcomes.
About You Applicants should demonstrate a strong and genuine passion for internal medicine, along with a clear commitment to specialist training. Essential and desirable criteria include:
*Completion of a one-year rotating internship
*Significant experience or strong interest in internal medicine
*Previous experience in general small animal practice (desirable)
*Membership of the RCVS
*Excellent written and spoken English, with strong communication skills
The Role This is a full-time position, working Monday to Friday, 8.00am–6.30pm, with flexibility required to accommodate clinical caseloads. The residency includes:
*1 in 4 weekend on-call emergency rota
*Protected off-clinic time for study and research
*Supportive supervision within a structured residency programme
