Veterinary Assistant Who Also Loves People? This Job Is for You!

This is not a “sit-at-the-front-desk-all-day” job. This unique hybrid position combines hands-on veterinary assisting with client service. You’ll spend part of your day working directly with our patients and medical team, and part of your day helping our clients and keeping the front desk running smoothly.

Do you love both people AND pets? Are you happiest when you’re busy, helping wherever you’re needed, and part of a team that genuinely cares about what they do? Woodside Animal Hospital is looking for a Veterinary Receptionist / Veterinary Assistant to join our team in a unique hybrid role that combines client service with hands-on veterinary assisting.

This is a great position for someone who enjoys variety and doesn’t want to spend their entire day behind a desk. One moment you may be welcoming a client and answering phones, and the next you may be helping restrain a patient, preparing for a procedure, monitoring hospitalized pets, or assisting our technicians and doctors.

Why You’ll Love It Here

  • A unique hybrid role that combines client service with hands-on veterinary assisting
  • A four-day workweek with approximately 35-40 hours per week
  • A fast-paced environment where no two days are exactly alike
  • The opportunity to work closely with both clients and the medical team
  • A team-first culture where everyone works toward the same goal
  • Variety in your day, from front desk responsibilities to direct patient care
  • The chance to make a meaningful difference for pets and their families

What You’ll Do

At the Front Desk

  • Welcome clients and their pets with a warm, professional attitude
  • Answer phones and help triage client questions appropriately
  • Schedule appointments and help keep the day running smoothly
  • Prepare records and paperwork for appointments
  • Process payments and answer questions about routine services and fees
  • Provide compassionate support to clients during difficult situations
  • Communicate with clients by phone, email, and other correspondence

In the Treatment Area

  • Assist doctors and technicians with medical, surgical, and dental procedures
  • Safely restrain and handle patients for examinations and procedures
  • Monitor hospitalized and post-anesthetic patients and report concerns
  • Prepare treatment areas, equipment, and surgical suites
  • Assist with radiology, dentistry, anesthesia, and patient care
  • Take heart and respiratory rates and perform other tasks appropriate to your training
  • Walk, clean, comfort, and care for hospitalized patients
  • Help keep the hospital clean, organized, stocked, and ready for the next patient
  • Provide clerical and medical-record support as needed

The role will vary from day to day, so flexibility, initiative, teamwork, and a willingness to jump in wherever you’re needed are essential.

What You’ll Bring

  • Comfort around animals and a genuine enjoyment of caring for them
  • A friendly and compassionate approach with clients and coworkers
  • An interest in veterinary medicine and eagerness to learn
  • The ability to multitask and stay productive in a busy environment
  • A team-player mindset and willingness to help wherever needed
  • Strong organization, dependability, and attention to detail
  • A calm and empathetic approach, especially when clients or patients are having a difficult day
  • A willingness to learn veterinary terminology and communicate professionally with both clients and the medical team

We believe the front desk and medical team are one team working toward the same goal: providing high-quality, compassionate care to pets and their families.

Our Vision: Helping Pets and Their Families By Providing High-Quality, Compassionate Care.
