Salary range: $75,000 - $85,000 (DOE)
A great veterinary practice doesn’t run on medicine alone. It takes a strong team, thoughtful leadership, good communication, and someone who can keep all the moving pieces moving in the right direction. That’s where you come in.
Owings Mills Veterinary Center is looking for a Practice Manager who knows how to lead people, support great veterinary care, and keep the day-to-day operations running smoothly. We’re a small-animal practice providing everything from wellness and preventative care to dentistry, surgery, diagnostics, and urgent care. Our team works hard to give pets thoughtful, compassionate care while helping clients feel informed, supported, and confident in the decisions they make for their animals.
We’re looking for a leader who understands that a successful hospital is about more than schedules and spreadsheets. It’s about building a team people want to be part of, creating an environment where staff can do their best work, and making sure the business side of the practice supports the medicine being delivered.
You’ll oversee the daily operations of the hospital, working closely with the medical leadership team to keep things organized, efficient, and moving forward. That means managing staffing and scheduling, supporting hiring and onboarding, helping team members develop their skills, and addressing challenges before they turn into bigger problems.
You’ll also keep an eye on the business side of things, including budgeting, labor and inventory costs, revenue, and other key performance metrics. You don’t need to choose between caring about people and caring about performance. The best Practice Managers understand that the two go hand in hand.
Just as importantly, you’ll help create a workplace where communication is clear, expectations are consistent, and people feel comfortable bringing forward ideas and concerns. You can have difficult conversations when needed, hold people accountable without losing their trust, and lead through change with a level head. You know when to roll up your sleeves, when to coach, and when to step back and let your team shine.
You have experience leading a team, ideally in veterinary medicine or another fast-paced healthcare or service environment. You’re organized, approachable, and comfortable juggling competing priorities without letting the details slip through the cracks. You can look at a budget, a staffing challenge, or a team dynamic and figure out what needs attention.
You’re also a people person in the practical sense. You communicate directly, listen before jumping to conclusions, and understand that different team members may need different kinds of support. You’re confident enough to make decisions and have honest conversations, but you don’t believe leadership means having the loudest voice in the room.
Veterinary experience is a plus, and previous practice management experience is highly desirable. Most of all, we want someone who can balance compassion with accountability, bring consistency to the workplace, and help the entire team succeed.
Why Owings Mills Veterinary Center?
Our hospital provides a range of small-animal medical services, including wellness care, diagnostics, dentistry, surgery, and urgent care. That variety makes for a busy, engaging environment where teamwork and communication matter every day.
As Practice Manager, you’ll have an opportunity to make a meaningful difference in how the hospital operates and how the team experiences their work. You’ll partner with the medical leadership team, help remove roadblocks, and contribute to a culture where quality medicine and a positive work environment can thrive together.
And because no two days in veterinary medicine ever seem to read the same script, you’ll need a little flexibility, a good sense of humor, and the ability to keep your cool when the schedule has other plans.
Ready to lead a team that makes a difference?
If you’re a thoughtful, hands-on leader who can keep the business running while helping people do their best work, we’d love to hear from you.
