Job Description

About RSPCA Queensland

For nearly 140 years, RSPCA Queensland has been a leading animal welfare charity, dedicated to improving the lives of animals - whether domestic, farmed, or native. We care for over 42,000 animals annually, relying on the generosity of animal lovers like you to fund 91% of our life-changing services.

Our Purpose: We exist for animals to live better lives.

About the Role

RSPCA Queensland is seeking a passionate and capable Veterinary Nurse to join our Toowoomba team, supporting the delivery of high-quality care to animals in a regional community setting.

Working within a busy and varied clinical environment, you’ll provide both medical and surgical nursing care to animals admitted through a range of pathways, including public admissions, Inspectorate cases, and transfers from surrounding regional areas. The caseload is diverse, offering a unique opportunity to work closely with animals that often require both clinical care and rehabilitation support.

As part of our dedicated veterinary and animal care team, you’ll collaborate with experienced clinicians and shelter staff who are deeply committed to improving animal welfare across the region. This role offers a meaningful connection to the local community, where your work will have a direct and visible impact.

This is a part-time opportunity, with required availability to work Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 8:30am – 4:30pm.

What We’re Looking For

You are someone who genuinely cares about the wellbeing of animals and takes pride in providing compassionate, high-quality care. You enjoy working in a hands-on environment and are comfortable balancing physical animal care duties with customer interactions and administrative tasks.

You are someone who stays calm and organised in a busy environment, communicates clearly with colleagues and the public, and approaches your work with empathy, professionalism and attention to detail.

Most importantly, you are someone who values teamwork, brings a positive attitude to your work, and finds purpose in helping both animals and people.

What You’ll Do

In this role, you will:

  • Provide medical and surgical nursing care to animals in RSPCA Queensland’s care.
  • Assist veterinarians with examinations, treatments and procedures
  • Administer routine veterinary treatments and medications
  • Perform outine laboratory and pathology testing.
  • Triage and intake of animals presenting to the hospital.
  • Maintain accurate patient records and assist with hospital data entry and appointment bookings.
  • Support reception and client-facing interactions when required
  • Ensure the hospital environment remains clean, safe and hygienic at all times.
  • Work collaboratively with veterinarians, animal attendants and other staff to deliver excellent patient care.
  • Attend occasional RSPCA community and fundraising events as required.

What You’ll Bring to the Role

  • Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing, Bachelor of Veterinary Technology, or recognised overseas equivalent.
  • Previous experience in surgical nursing, emergency or critical care within a companion animal setting.
  • Confident working independently with a varied caseload
  • Strong organisational and time management skills with high attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A collaborative mindset and ability to build positive relationships across teams.
  • Flexibility, adaptability and a proactive approach to problem solving.
  • Genuine interest in animal welfare and alignment with the mission of RSPCA Queensland.
  • Ability to perform physical duties including manual handling and safely lift up to 10kg.

Why Join Us?

  • Comprehensive Support: Enjoy 8 weeks of paid parental leave, flexible working arrangements, study leave, and even leave for your furry companions. We also provide access to counselling and mental health services.
  • Employee Perks: From free on-site parking to exclusive discounts, novated leases, free pet vaccines, and 50% off Royal Canin pet food, we’ve got you covered! You can also adopt a new furry friend with free adoption options.
  • Purpose-Driven Impact: Be part of a mission-driven organisation where every task makes a tangible difference to animal welfare.

At RSPCA Queensland, we actively support your growth. You’ll have opportunities to expand your skills, take on greater responsibility and shape your career over time - whether that’s deepening your clinical expertise, stepping into broader leadership, or contributing to initiatives across our animal care, operations and community programs.
