Veterinary Medical Director – Houston, TX

A veterinary practice is seeking an experienced Lead Veterinarian to provide high-quality medical care while leading and mentoring the clinical team. This role combines hands-on veterinary medicine with team leadership, client communication, and practice support. The ideal candidate is committed to compassionate patient care, clinical excellence, teamwork, and professional development.

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive veterinary care, including examinations, diagnostics, medical, surgical, and dental procedures.
• Diagnose conditions and develop and explain appropriate treatment plans to clients.
• Maintain accurate patient records and documentation.
• Lead, mentor, and support veterinarians, technicians, assistants, and other clinical team members.
• Provide feedback and guidance to improve medical quality, teamwork, client service, and efficiency.
• Support the development and professional growth of the clinical team.
• Follow established medical, safety, operating, and compliance procedures.
• Stay current with developments in veterinary medicine and participate in continuing education.
• Promote a collaborative, patient-focused environment.
• Perform additional duties and travel as needed.

Qualifications

• DVM, VMD, or equivalent veterinary degree from an accredited program.
• Active veterinary license in good standing.
• DEA license and other required professional credentials.
• Strong clinical and communication skills.
• Ability to lead, mentor, and collaborate with veterinary professionals.
• Compassionate, client-focused approach to patient care.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to stand, walk, push, pull, carry, squat, and kneel as required.
